Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat, who won bronze at the Paris Olympics, has been disconnected from the ongoing World Wrestling Championship at Jagreb. He was found overweight before the match on Sunday. Aman was about to participate in men’s freestyle 57 KG event, but he weighed 1.7 kg more.
On the condition of not revealing the name, an officer said to PTI- ‘It is unfortunate and surprising that Aman could not control his weight. When they stood up to measure weight, he weighs 1700 grams more. This is not acceptable. How much his weight became so much is beyond our comprehension.
A year ago, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified due to 100 grams of overweight in the Paris Olympics. He was snatched away for India to win gold. Aman Sehrawat was expected to medal in this championship, which is now broken. Mukul Dahiya remains in the medal race. Deepik Poonia, Vikas Singh and Amit have lost their matches.

The World Cup, Ranking Series and other international tournaments are overweight up to 2 kg as per the rules of World United Wrestling released in 2023, but there is no such provision for the Olympic Games and World Championships. If 1 gram is also overweight, then disqualifying is done.
