Famous standup artist Zakir Khan became the first Indian comedian to perform in Hindi at Madison Square Garden. He performed on 17 August at this indoor areana located in New York, USA.
The Madison Square Garden is counted among the world’s most prestigious performance venues.
Zakir was born in a Rajasthani Muslim family in the Bombay market of Indore. There was a complete atmosphere of music at home. His grandfather Ustad Moinuddin Khan was a famous Sarangi player and worked in All India Rhodio. At the same time, his father Ismail Khan is a music teacher. Zakir himself plays the sitar.
The dream of becoming a radio jockey was shifted to Delhi in 2008. Then there he did a short term course of radio and did a 3 -month internship in a private radio channel. Despite this, the job was not found. In such a situation, he returned to Indore.
Arrived at Delhi with mother’s 1,500 rupees given
2009 January is the point. After spending a few days at home, Zakir’s mind realized that even if you want to remain unemployed, then at least stay in a big city. Thought at 2 pm and the train at 4 pm was Indore Delhi Intercity Express.
To go back to Delhi, he lied to the family members that he had got his job. Then took the train with only 1,500 rupees given by the mother. At around 3 o’clock in the night, Jakir, sitting outside the washroom of the third class compartment, took out a diary from his bag and wrote a poem- I am riding on zero. This poem became very popular later.
In an interview, Zakir says, ‘When he left the house, I wanted to become a writer, then I wanted to become a radio jockey, then I said that I have to write poems, then I said no, I have to standup now. By the time I reached the standup, the housemates were tired. Then the housemates asked what would you live and I stopped and said yes, I will live.
After this, he wrote many poems and lions like- How slowly life I have gone, I could not go home this time too.
Fever was a copyrieter at 104 FM
Finally, in 2011, Zakir got a job. Started work at Fever 104 FM of Hindustan Times Media Group. He worked here as a copyriers and researchers till 2015. During this, Zakir wrote many lions and poems, such as-

Comedy became champion of central
In 2012, the ‘India’s Best Stand-Up Comedian’ competition took place in Comedy Central. While working, Zakir also participated in it and won. After this victory, Zakir’s life changed. Then in 2013, started small stand-up shows and started putting the act on YouTube.
Zakir joined the AIB (All India Bakchod) company in 2014 and started working as a writer. Performed in AIB Diwas and wrote and co-hosted for the show ‘On Air with AIB’.
Found the tag of ‘Hard Launda’
Zakir left the job in April 2015 and became a full time standup artist. In 2016, he did an open standup. Her video uploaded on YouTube under the name of ‘when I met a delhi girl’. This video went viral. From this, he got the tag of ‘Hard Launda’.
Zakir has also been a judge in the comics.
‘Uncle MLA is our’ series recognized in acting
On May 18, 2018, ‘Chacha MLA Hai’ on Amazon Prime Video was released. Zakir not only wrote this web series, but also acted in it. This gave his fans a chance to see another side of Zakir and that was acting. This series became a hit. Later on 26 March 2021, Season 2 of the series ‘Chacha MLA Hai’ was also released.
After this, in an interview, Zakir talked about his challenges. He told that if you want to build a big luxurious house, then you will have to arrange brick, slurry, soil, cement and sariya. So right now, he was collecting all these ingredients for the journey here. This was my challenges.
Zakir started ‘Asha’ podcast. It is one of the most strengthened podcasts in India.
Has done 4 stand-up special shows on Amazon Prime
The year 2017 Zakir released the first stand-up special show ‘Haq Se Singal’ on Amazon Prime Video. Then in 2018, the second stand-up special show ‘Class XI’ was released. Then after the era of Kovid, in 2022, the third stand-up special show ‘Aastastu’ was released. Then this year he also released its fourth stand-up special show ‘Manpasand’.
Performed at Opera House and Royal Albert Hall
In 2023, Zakir started the World Tour. August 2023 became the first Indian standup artist to perform at Sydney’s Opera House. Then on October 13, 2023, he performed at the famous Royal Albert Hall in London and became the first Asian Comedian to do so.
Zakir performed in front of 6,000 people on August 17, 2025 at the Madison Square Garden. Along with this, he became the first standup artist to perform in Hindi in this indoor Arena located in New York, USA.
