Fungus was found in the breakfast being distributed to children in more than two schools run with the help of Zilla Parishad and the state government in Palghar district of Maharashtra.

Following the complaint, Collector Govind Bodke told PTI on Monday that nutrition samples were collected and after the laboratory report, the complaint of fungus in breakfast was found to be true.

Actually, this fungus was in the breakfast (chikki) served in Anand Laxman Chandawar School and Chinchani Zilla Parishad School No. 3 in the tribal district of Maharashtra.

Parents had complained earlier also

According to media reports, parents had claimed that there was fungus and larvae in their children’s breakfast. Parents said, despite repeated complaints, we are not heard in the system.

Officers have collected samples and sent them for laboratory testing. We will have to wait until the laboratory submits the report. Action will be initiated after the report is submitted.

Food is given to children studying in class 1 to 8

Children studying in government and government-aided schools are provided nutritious food. For this, a scheme named Pradhan Mantri Poshan has been implemented. Under this scheme, nutritious food is provided to children studying in classes 1 to 8.

Apart from this, nutritious food is also provided in Anganwadi centres. The Government of India allots necessary items and money for nutritious food in Anganwadi centres. The quality and regularity of nutritional food is also monitored in Anganwadi centres.
