Indian Grand Master D Gukesh has faced defeat in the 12th game against China’s Ding Liren. Defending champion Liren defeated Gukesh 1-0.

With the defeat of Gukesh, once again the score between the two players has become equal and currently both are tied at 6-6 points. 18-year-old Gukesh had taken a one-point lead by winning the 11th match on Sunday, but Liren was successful in making a comeback.

Gukesh 1.5 points away from becoming champion

The result between Gukesh and Liren came in the 11th round after seven consecutive draws, but Liren went all out on Monday and managed to take the lead against the Indian Grandmaster. Now 2 matches of 14 rounds of classical format are left between Gukesh and Liren. Both players are 1.5 points away from winning the title.

If the match is a draw after the end of 14 rounds then the winner will be decided through Faster Time Control. The next two matches between Gukesh and Liren will be played on Wednesday and Thursday, while there will be rest on Tuesday. It’s like a tie breaker.
