India’s Jasmine Lumboria created history by winning the gold medal in the World Boxing Championships 2025 being played in Liverpool. In the final of the 57 kg category, Jasmine defeated Julia Sajreetta of Poland with a 4–1 split decision.
Commonwealth Games medalist Jasmine made a brilliant comeback after losing the first round and dominated the match. It is noteworthy that Julia Sajremeta has been a silver medalist of Paris Olympics 2024.

Male boxers’ medal drought after 12 years Unlike the brilliant success of women boxers, this championship was disappointing for the men’s section. The 10 -member male team of India is returning home without any medal. This is the first time since 2013 when the Indian male boxers remained empty handed.
In the quarter-finals of the 50 kg category, Jadumani Singh Mandenbam gave a tough challenge to the current world champion Kazakhstan’s Sanjhar Tashkenboy, but lost 0–4. Apart from Jadumani, only Abhinash Jamwal (65 kg) reached the quarter -finals, while the rest of the players were out in the early stages.
Last time men got three medals
India won three bronze medals in the men’s category at the Tashkent World Boxing Championship in 2023. Deepak Bhoria (51 kg), Mohammad Hussamuddin (57 kg) and Nishant Dev (71 kg) then won medals. But this time the male boxers remained empty.
