No date has been announced yet regarding NEET-UG 2025. The delay in registration remains a problem for both the Education Ministry and the candidates.
National Testing Agency (NTA) had released the online notice (bulletin) regarding the exam syllabus on 30 December. But no new link has been issued for this, rather the old bulletin link has been redirected.
Questions may also be raised on NTA due to delay in NEET-UG registration. According to a media report, officials associated with the Education Ministry have also expressed concern about this and said – ‘If there is a delay in the examination, it will also be a question on the transparency of NTA. How will NTA fix such a situation? This will also raise questions on the agency and its flaws will also come to light.
The registration process should have been completed in November.
NEET-UG registrations were usually started in November and the examination was conducted in May. After Covid-19, NEET-UG registration dates gradually moved to December and even after 15 days of January this year (2025), no date has been announced yet. Due to this, questions can also be raised on the agency.
When were the registrations and examinations held from 2019 till now?
NTA has not announced any date for registration yet. On December 30, NTA released the new syllabus of NEET-UG and on January 15, a new notification was issued making Apar ID mandatory in NEET-UG. NTA said in its notification – By adding Apar ID, it will be easier to make the examination transparent.
More than 25 lakh candidates will be included
In the year 2024, more than 24 lakh students had registered and given this examination. These included more than 10 lakh boys and more than 13 lakh girls and 24 students also belonged to the third gender.
If we talk about the year 2025, then 24-30 lakh students will again register for the examination but the delay in registration can affect the preparations for the examination.
According to an official associated with the Education Ministry, ‘If there is a delay in registration, questions will be raised on the trust of the agency. The more delay the exam dates are announced, the more delay there will be in the booking and security of the exam centre. This is a worrying topic.
In the year 2024, more than 13 lakh girl students appeared in the examination and 24 students were also of third gender.
Questions will also be raised on transparency of NTA
The official associated with the Education Ministry also said that questions will be raised on the transparency of the examination and whether NTA will be able to conduct the examination properly in a short time.
Actually, NEET-UG paper was leaked in the year 2024. There was also delay in distribution of papers at many centres. There was talk of paper leak on May 6 itself. Then NTA had issued an official notification denying the paper leak. After the declaration of the results, when the CBI heard the petitions and conducted the investigation, the entire matter of paper leak came to light.
After the leak of NEET-UG paper in the year 2024, students across the country took to the streets and demonstrated demanding re-examination.
Candidates are getting affected due to delay
No notification has come yet regarding NEET-UG registration. Candidates do not yet know when their examination will be held. Along with this, these are those candidates who are also preparing for board exam (Class 12th), JEE, then they do not have much time left for both the exams and this will affect their studies.
The problem in this is not when NTA will conduct the examination, but when the candidates will be registered. NTA should conduct the examination soon only then it will be able to win the trust of the candidates.
At the same time, NTA said in its clarification – NEET-UG will be conducted with complete transparency in 2025.
NEET-IIT Academy Director Shubham Roy says, ‘The intention of NTA in NEET-UG registration may be to avoid the mistakes of the past years, but it will affect the candidates, because till the complete notification comes, there will be confusion and This also affects the performance of the candidates.
NTA said, examination will be held on pen-paper mode only
NTA has also issued a notification on January 16 regarding NEET-UG paper mode, in which it has been said that the exam will be conducted in pen-paper mode only. After the leak of NEET-UG paper in the year 2024, it was believed that in the year 2025 the exam could be CBT i.e. computer based.
Former ISRO chief K regarding NEET-UG entrance. A high level committee was formed under the chairmanship of Radhakrishnan. This committee was entrusted with the task of improving the entrance. This committee had also proposed to the government i.e. NTA to conduct the paper in online mode. But according to the notification, it will be done on pen-paper mode only.
According to the Education Ministry official, ‘It would be better to conduct it on pen-paper mode because there are more candidates in NEET. Let us tell you that this year more than 13 lakh candidates have registered for JEE Mains. Last year, more than 24 lakh candidates appeared in the NEET-UG examination.
NEET-IIT Academy Director Shubham Roy says, ‘It is true that it is not possible for so many candidates to conduct the exam in online mode without any prior preparation. But it is not that this cannot be done online. Soon NTA will try to conduct it in online mode and only then this examination will become completely transparent.
Exam of more than 25 lakh candidates in one shift is not possible
Every year around 8 to 10 lakh candidates appear for JEE and this year the registration is more than 13 lakh. NEET-UG 2024 is the biggest examination of the country and last year about 24 lakh candidates appeared in this examination. If sources are to be believed, this year this number can go up to 28-30 lakhs. It is very difficult to do such a large paper on pen-paper mode.
NEET-IIT Academy Director Shubham Roy says, the more the delay in releasing the exam notification, the more its transparency will be affected. It is not easy to conduct the examination on pen-paper mode and in such a situation, the longer the centers are decided, the greater will be the reduction in the security of the centres.
At the same time, an official, on the condition of anonymity, said that if the examination is conducted online, only about 1.5 lakh candidates can be examined simultaneously in one shift. In such a situation, it is not possible to conduct the examination of more than 25 lakh candidates simultaneously in a single shift. It will not be easy to find a reliable center for this.
The official said, ‘Candidates living and brought up in urban areas are user friendly, that is, they have basic knowledge of computers and many times they misuse it and also give fake exams. Whereas candidates from rural schools and areas do not have that much knowledge about computers. The biggest thing is that if the mode of examination is changed three months in advance, it will cause loss to the candidates.
NTA has not yet announced the dates regarding registration in its notification. Along with this, it is believed that the registration date can be released in the first week of February.
