According to the United Nations i.e. UN, India’s population has been 1.6 billion in 2025. In this way, India is the most populous country in the world, but the fertility rate has come down to 1.9, which is less than the population replacement rate 2.1. There are two big reasons for this- economic obstacles and struggle over work
These figures have been revealed in The Real Fertility Crisis report of UNFPA State of World Population 2025. According to the report, 38% of Indian economic reasons and 21% are reluctant to produce a child due to unemployment and lack of job security.
To understand this, we talked to some youth. Most of the economic problems were given the reason for not producing children-
I do not want to produce children because my condition is not my condition. Even financially, I do not consider myself capable. The reason for this is job crisis and economic insecurity.

First of all, we understand why the fertility rate’s population is less than the replacement rate.
According to the report, if the fertility rate is 1.9, then there will be a population decline in India in 40 years. By then India’s population would have reached 1.7 billion.
Population decline means that in our country, there will be more old and children will be born less and gradually the population of youth will be less than the elderly. This will reduce the population of productive and running the economy and will increase the dependent population.
India’s condition can also be like Japan. At the same time, 2.1 fertility rate is a safe solution, that is, it can maintain the balance of population.
More than 5 out of every 100 are unemployed looking for jobs
According to the Periodic Labor Force Survey of the Ministry of Statistics and Program, India’s unemployment rate was 5.1% in April 2025.
Not every youth of the country is added to the unemployment rate. It only includes youth who are looking for jobs. This means that 51 out of every 1000 people looking for jobs in India are unemployed. According to this survey, more than 2 crore youth in the country are unemployed.
The Alam of unemployment is in the country that millions of youth apply for recruitment when the smallest and biggest government jobs are released.
120 candidates for 1 post in competition
The condition of government jobs in the country is that more than 1 crore people are applying for 11 thousand vacancies of clerk. This means that about 1 thousand candidates apply for a post and compute for it. Not only this, PHD holders apply for 12th pass or graduates for graduates.
Things worse in private sector
Case 1-
On 7 April, a video went viral on social media. In the video, a dog’s strap is tied around a man’s neck. Another person is walking as if a dog is talked.
In another video, some employees are seen taking off their clothes on someone’s orders. Actually this video was from a marketing firm in Kerala. In one part of the video, the employees were asked to lift the coins lying on the ground from their mouths. It was alleged that the employees of the marketing company could not meet their target and due to this they were punished.
After the video went viral, the employees who were working in the company and earlier said in an interview to a TV channel that it is quite common to get such a punishment in the company. When an employee was unable to meet the sales target on time, he was decorated like crawling on the ground, taking off clothes in front of everyone and making fun of everyone.
Case 2-
In April itself, the Linadin Post of Hansraj College’s Topper of Delhi University became quite viral. This post was done by Bisma Farid. She has been a student of Hansraj College, Delhi University.
He had a Bachelor degree of English Honors from there. During his studies, he won more than 50 certificates, more than 10 trophies and more than 10 medals. Apart from this, she was always in top scorers in school and college. Despite this, he could not even get an internship after the college was over. Bisma had expressed his pain on the social media platform Linadin.
Case 3-
26 -year -old Ana Sebastian Perial died in July 2024 due to overwork. Ana joined the Eye Company as an executive in March 2024 4 months ago.
On July 6, when Ana’s parents came to Pune to meet her, she complained of chest pain. On showing the doctor, it was found that Ana was neither sleeping properly nor eating on time. He was worried about office work all the time.
Ana died on 20 July due to more stress, anxiety and physical-mental pressure. The company for which Ana lost his life, no one from the company did not join its last rituals (Christian final culture).
Case 4-
Around 200 SEBI employees demonstrated outside the Mumbai office in the early weeks of September 2024. He complained that seniors call him with various names, publicly insult him and are constantly increasing the pressure to meet the changing targets.
More jobs are committing suicide than unemployed in the country
If the NCRB’s 2021 data is seen, then it was revealed that more employed people are suicide than the unemployed. This figure is more than students and farmers who are committing suicide in the country.
Companies are breaking expectations about salary
One of the Job Portal Found-It Sarm was revealed that 47% of the employees working in India are not happy with their salary hike. Along with this, these people complained that their expectations on salary were broken and very low hikes were given.
In this survey, 25% of the people admitted that they too do not get the salary hike but they do not seem any big problem.
‘The education system could not do the government which did not do’
A 32 -year -old Employee, who worked in the corporate, said, ‘The government has been trying to control population for years but nothing happened. The education system showed what the government could not do because at today’s time the education of children has become so expensive that people do not want to produce much children.
He says that he already spends 20% of his 2 -year -old son. They are not alone. Another employee whose son is now graduating, is spending about 70% of income on the child.
Actually, the fees of schools in the country are skyrocketing. In Delhi, the fees of classes like pre-school i.e. pre-nursery and nursery range from Rs 5 thousand to Rs 13 thousand per month. Many schools are demanding one time fees from Rs 30 thousand to Rs 2 lakh to reserve seats. Apart from this, the fees of uniforms, transportation, stationery, books and extra-worker activities are different.
