SCIENCE & TECH
1. ISRO’s Spacex mission launched: ISRO launched SpaDeX i.e. Space Docking Experiment mission on December 30 at 10 pm from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
Under this, two spacecraft were deployed 470 km above the earth with the PSLV-C60 rocket.
- Now on January 7, 2025, in this mission, these two spacecraft traveling in space ten times faster than the speed of a bullet will be connected.
- After deployment, the spacecraft are traveling at a speed of approximately 28,800 kilometers per hour.
- This speed is 36 times the speed of a commercial aircraft and 10 times the speed of a bullet.
- If the mission is successful, India will become the fourth country to do so after Russia, America and China.
- India’s Chandrayaan-4 mission depends on the success of the mission, in which samples of lunar soil will be brought to Earth.
- Chandrayaan-4 mission can be launched in 2028.

2. Vitul Kumar becomes Director General of CRPF: IPS officer Vitul Kumar became the new Director General or DG of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
He replaced IPS officer Anish Dayal Singh, who is retiring today on December 31.
- Earlier, Vitul Kumar was working as ADG Operations in CRPF.
- He is a 1993 batch UP cadre IPS.
- In 2009, he was made Deputy Inspector General of UP Police i.e. DIG, while in 2012 he became Inspector General i.e. IG.
- Then on January 1, 2018, he got promotion again and was made Additional Director General i.e. ADG in CRPF.
- Vipul has received many awards for his work, which include Police Medal to President’s Police Medal.
- On 26 January 2021, he received the President’s Police Medal, while on 15 August 2009, he received the Police Medal.

3. It is mandatory for airlines to give data of foreign passengers to the Customs Department: Airlines companies will have to provide data of all international passengers to the Customs Department from April 1, 2025.
Keeping in mind the strictness and security on the movement of foreign passengers, the Indian Customs Department announced the implementation of a new rule on December 30.
- This rule will be implemented under the ‘Advanced Passenger Information System (APIS)’ of the Indian Customs Department.
- Its purpose is to identify travelers coming and going from abroad in advance and to reduce any kind of security threat.
- Under this, airlines will have to send the name of passengers, passport number, travel route, ticket information, and other important information to the Indian Customs Department 24 hours before departure and arrival from India.
- Failure to follow rules may result in fine. According to the new rules, passengers will also have to provide information about their mobile numbers and payment methods 24 hours before the flight.
4. The country’s first glass bridge built over the sea in Kanyakumari: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated India’s first glass bridge over the sea in Kanyakumari on December 30.
This bridge connects the Thiruvalluvar Statue and the Vivekananda Rock Memorial.
- The length of this glass bridge is 77 meters and width is 10 meters.
- Now tourists can reach the 133 feet high Thiruvalluvar statue directly from the Vivekananda Rock Memorial on the banks of Kanyakumari.
- The state government has spent Rs 37 crore for this project.
- The bow-shaped arch glass bridge has been designed to withstand the strong winds blowing on the coast.
5. 3,000 special trains will run for Prayagraj Mahakumbh: In view of the huge crowd during Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, 3,000 special trains will be run.
North Central Railway General Manager Upendra Chandra Joshi gave this information on December 30.
- 1800 short distance and 700 long distance trains will be run.
- 560 trains will run on the ring railway built in Prayagraj.
- Apart from the fair area, tickets will be available at 560 locations across 9 railway stations of Prayagraj.
- Mahakumbh will be organized from January 13 to February 26, 2025 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

6. Chandrababu Richest Chief Minister: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is the richest Chief Minister of the country. He has assets worth more than Rs 931 crore.
This information has come out in a report released on December 30 by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the poorest chief minister with assets worth Rs 15 lakh.
- The average wealth of Chief Ministers of 31 states and union territories is Rs 52.59 crore, while the total wealth is Rs 1,630 crore.
- While India’s per capita Net National Income (NNI) was around Rs 1 lakh 85 thousand 854 in 2023-2024, the average income of a Chief Minister was Rs 13 lakh 64 thousand 310.
- This is about 7.3 times more than the average per capita income of India.

7. Defense Ministry signs two contracts worth Rs 2,867 crore: The Defense Ministry signed two contracts worth Rs 2,867 crore in New Delhi on December 30.
These contracts have been signed to enhance the capabilities of Indian Navy’s submarines and further strengthen maritime security.
- The first contract worth Rs 1,990 crore was signed with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Mumbai.
- Under this, DRDO developed Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) plug will be manufactured and installed in conventional submarines.
- The second contract is worth Rs 877 crore, which has been signed with Naval Group, France.
- Under this, Electronic Heavy Weight Torpedo (EHWT) developed by DRDO will be installed in Kalvari-class submarines.
- The project will be carried out in collaboration between the Indian Navy, DRDO and Naval Group, France.

8. Syed Kirmani’s auto biography ‘Stumped’ launched: India’s 1983 World Cup-winning wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani launches his autobiography ‘Stumped’.
On 29 December, Syed Kirmani launched his autobiography at an event at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on his 75th birthday.
- Kirmani has told about his life and cricket career in his autobiography.
- It is published by Penguin’s London Publications.
- Along with Kirmani, Debashish Sengupta and Dakshesh Pathak are also the authors of the book.
- Wicketkeeper Kirmani played 88 Tests and 49 ODIs for India.
- He scored 2,759 runs in Tests and 373 runs in ODIs.

9. Bumrah and Nitish’s names in MCG’s honors board: Bumrah and Nitish’s names have been written on the honors board of Melbourne Cricket Ground.
BCCI released the video of writing the names of Bumrah and Reddy on the honors board on 31 December. In this 48 second video, Nitish Reddy was seen seeing his name on the Honors Board and taking its photo.
- Nitish Reddy is the 11th Indian batsman to make it to the MCG Honors Board, while Bumrah is the sixth bowler.
- The batsmen’s list on the board includes Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, while the bowlers’ list includes Kapil Dev and Anil Kumble.
- Players who make memorable performances on any field are included in the Honors Board.
- Usually, batsmen who score a century and bowlers who take 5 wickets or 10 wickets in an innings get a place in this.
- Bumrah took a total of 9 wickets in both the innings, while Nitish Reddy played a century of 114 runs in the first innings.
