1. Uttarakhand became the first state to implement UCC: The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand has come into force from today.
During a program at the Chief Minister’s residence on 27 January, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the implementation of Uniform Civil Code.
- During this, Dhami inaugurated the Rules and Portal, UCC.UK.Gov.in on the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code Uttarakhand-2024.
- From now on, the day of January 27 in the state will be celebrated as equal citizenship day.
- Uttarakhand has become the first state in the country to implement Uniform Civil Code after independence.
- Although the UCC is already in force in Goa, it was implemented under the Portuguese Civil Code.
2. Waqf Amendment Bill received JPC approval: Changes in the Waqf Bill were approved by the Joint Committee of Parliament on 27 January.
The Waqf Amendment Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on 8 August 2024. Following the opposition’s opposition, the central government formed a JPC under the leadership of BJP MP Jagdambika Pal.
- All 44 amendments were discussed in the JPC final meeting.
- Among them, 14 suggestions of NDA MP have been approved.
3. Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will attend the 11th meeting of the Joint Commission: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will participate in the 11th meeting of the Joint Commission.

4. M Mohan became the new director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Center: On 26 January, ISRO Chief V. Narayanan appointed the current director (projects) of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) and scientist M. Mohan as Director of ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion Systems Center (LPSC).
M Mohan hails from Alappuzha in Kerala.
- M Mohan was the system leader of the Moon Impact Prob (MIP) project in the Chandrayaan-1 mission in 2008.
- Mohan’s achievements have been awarded the ISRO Performance Excellence Award in 2016 and ISRO Merit Award in 2010.
- He also served as a project director of the GSLV program and was the mission director of two missions completed in 2018-GSLV-F08/GSAT-6 and GSLV-F11/GSAT-7A.
- He has been a project director of Cryogenic Upper Stage (CUS), Materials of LPSC and Deputy Director of Manufacturing Antiti, and Project Director of VSSC’s Space Capsule Recovery Project (Sre-2).

5. 139 celebrities will be awarded the Padma Awards: 139 Padma Awards have been announced for the year 2025, in which 7 celebrities including Sharda Sinha, Osamu Suzuki will be given the Padma Vibhushan Samman.
The Central Government announced 139 Padma Awards for 2025 on Saturday on the eve of Republic Day.
- At the same time, 19 celebrities including former hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, Pankaj Udhas and Sushil Modi were selected for Padma Bhushan.
- Apart from these, 113 celebrities including Rajasthan folk singer Batul Begum, Gynecologist Dr. Neerja Bhatla of Delhi will be honored with Padma Shri this time.

KM Cherian launched the Coronary Artary bypass Graft (CABG) surgery in India about 50 years ago.
- The 82 -year -old doctor Cherian had an experience of over 50 years as a cardiologist.
- Cherian underwent first heart surgery from organ dead patient’s organ donation.

- Dr. Cherian also worked as an honorary surgeon of the President of India from 1990 to 1993.
- He was awarded the Padma Shri Award in 1991 by the Government of India.
