UGC 2 Year Graduation Degrees Program Update | Syllabus Time Duration | Now you can do graduation in just 2 years: UGC may bring a new policy by next year; Weak students will be able to extend the course duration up to 5 years

Students will be able to increase or decrease the course duration for graduation from the next academic year. The University Grants Commission (UGC) is working on a new flexible approach to completing graduation degrees from the 2025-26 academic year. Under this, students will be able to reduce the graduation degree which takes 3 to 4 years to complete in two to two and a half years.

This information was given by UGC Chairman M. Jagadish Kumar in a program of IIT Madras on Thursday. IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti had suggested this policy. UGC has been working on this for a long time.

What changes can happen in the course duration?

Question: Which students will get the benefit? answer: Students doing graduation from any discipline.

Question: What options will be available answer: The graduation degree which takes 3 to 4 years can be reduced to two to two and a half years. At the same time, students who are weak in studies can increase the time of their graduation program up to 5 years.

Question: Why is UGC considering this pattern? answer: Chairman M. Jagadish Kumar said that UGC wants to make the higher education system easier. With this, more and more students will join higher education.

Question: When will it be implemented? answer: Nothing has been decided yet. However, it is proposed to implement it from the academic year 2025-26.

Question: How will students be able to choose these options? answer: UGC has not yet given much information about it, but has said that if talented students complete the credit score in 2 years, then they will not have to wait 3 or 5 years for the degree.

Students can also take break between degrees Earlier, under the National Education Policy-2020, UGC has also brought the option of taking a break between degrees for the students. If a student wishes, he can take a break from the course and come back later to complete it. Regarding this, the UGC Chairman said that our job is to make students critical thinkers. We want to make them such that they can help in the development of the country.

He further said that UGC has already given multiple entrance and exit options, so that weaker students can take breaks and complete the syllabus as per their choice. Our aim will make students more flexible and give more opportunities.

Along with this, Jagdish Kumar said that in the Higher Education meeting in Delhi on 12-13 November, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has reviewed the progress of NEP 2020 and talked about its implementation. States like West Bengal and Kerala opposed the education policy. These states started four-year degree programs. Tamil Nadu did not adopt the NEP and instead drafted a state education policy. In such a situation, this will be a good start.
