1. President Murmu gave ‘Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award 2025’ to 27 people: President Draupadi Murmu presented ‘Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards 2025’ to 27 people today on January 10.
President Draupadi Murmu presented the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (in the field of community service) to Dr. Sharmila Ford of America.
- The Ministry of External Affairs had announced the names of the award winners for the year 2025 on January 3.
- The awardees include President Christine Carla Kangaloo of Trinidad-Tobago (in the public category), B Usha Kumari Parashar from the UK (in the field of politics) and Dr. Sharmila Ford from the US (in the field of community service).
- The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award is the highest honor given to overseas Indians.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inaugurated this conference on January 9.

2. Malayalam singer and National Award winner ‘P. Jayachandran’ passed away: Legendary Malayalam singer and National Award winner P Jayachandran has passed away at the age of 80.
On January 9, Jayachandran breathed his last in a private hospital in Thrissur, Kerala.
- P Jayachandran was a well-known voice in Malayalam as well as Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi cinema.
- Jayachandran sang approximately 16 thousand songs in his career.
- In 1986, he was awarded the National Film Award for Best Playback Singer.
- Apart from this, he also received 5 Kerala State Film Awards, 4 Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, The Jesse Daniel Award from the Government of Kerala and Kalaimamani Award from the Government of Tamil Nadu.

3. ‘Third Eye Asian Film Festival’ starts today: Third Eye Asian Film Festival has started in Mumbai from today, January 10.
Chinese film ‘The Black Dog’ will be screened at the inauguration of the festival.
- The film ‘The Black Dog’ won the Best Film Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
- On this occasion, famous lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar will be honored with the ‘Asian Cinema Culture Award’.
- Also, journalist Rafiq Baghdadi will be given ‘Satyajit Ray Memorial Award’.
- A total of 61 films have been selected for this festival which will run till January 16, which will be shown.
- These films will be shown in Andheri, Sion and Thane of Maharashtra.

4. Defense Minister chairs meeting of ambassadors: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a meeting of ambassadors in New Delhi on January 10 ahead of ‘Aero India-2025’.
‘Aero India Show’ is one of the largest exhibitions in Asia and the world in the aerospace and defense sector.
- More than 150 ambassadors and high commissioners of friendly countries have been invited to participate in the event.
- The 15th edition of Asia’s largest air show ‘Aero India’ will be held at Yelahanka Air Force Station in Bengaluru from February 10 to 14.
- It will host a number of events including a Defense Ministers’ Conference, CEO Round-Table, IDEX Start-up Ceremony, air display and a trade fair of aeronautical companies.
- This year the theme of the program is – Runway to a Billion Opportunities.
5. Sixth and last Scorpion submarine commissioned into the Indian Navy: Mumbai’s Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited has handed over the sixth Scorpion class submarine of Project P-75 ‘Vaghsheer’ to the Navy on January 9.
It was commissioned into the Indian Navy as INS Waghshir.
- ‘Waghsheer’ is equipped with advanced stealth features, such as sound deadening and improved hydrodynamic design.
- Due to stealth feature, submarine cannot be detected even by radar and other detecting technologies.
- It is capable of launching torpedoes and anti-ship missiles.
- Also, this submarine is capable of performing many tasks including intelligence gathering and surveillance.
- Waghshir is different from the previous five submarines in that it is fitted with an indigenously developed air conditioning plant and internal communication and broadcasting system.
- The six submarines include Kalvari, Khanderi, Karanj, Vela, Vagir and Waghshir.

6. India’s passport ranking slips five places: India’s passport has reached 85th position in The Henley Passport Index of 2025.
Henley & Partners has released the ranking for the year 2025 based on the latest data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
- This year, India’s ranking has slipped five places, which was earlier at 80th position.
- According to the index, Indian passport holders can now travel to 57 countries without a visa.
- India is sharing this ranking with Equatorial Guinea and Niger.
- At the same time, the ranking of neighboring country Pakistan is 103rd.
- Singapore has topped the list of the world’s most powerful passports for the second consecutive year.
- According to the Henley Passport Index of 2025, Singapore passport holders can travel to 195 countries without a visa.
- Japan is at second place in this list, whose passport holders can travel visa-free to 193 countries.
