Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah approved the stadium spread over 100 acres to be built in Surya City of Housing Board.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced the construction of a new cricket stadium near Bangalore. In this stadium, 80 thousand viewers will be able to watch matches simultaneously. This viewer will be the second largest cricket stadium in the country after the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Siddaramaiah has approved the proposal of stadium in Surya City, Bomasandra of Karnataka Housing Board. It will be built at a cost of Rs 1650 crore.

The new stadium is 22 km from the already present M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The decision to make it has been taken after a stampede at the Victory Celebration of Royal Challengers Bangalore.

RCB won the IPL Trophy for the first time. On June 4, a program was organized in Chinnaswamy to celebrate this victory. There was a stampede and 11 people lost their lives.

Stadium will be built on 100 acres The Karnataka Housing Board will bear the entire cost of this project worth Rs 1,650 crore. It will not only have a cricket ground, but also eight indoor and eight outdoor sports facilities, modern gym, training centers, swimming pools, guest houses, hostels, hotels and a convention hall for international events. This stadium can become like BCCI’s new National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

M. Chinnaswamy is not good for big events Justice John Michael Kunha Commission, who investigated the Bengaluru stampede case, had said that M. Chinnaswamy Stadium with a capacity of 32,000 spectators, which is spread over 17 acres, is not good for large events. The Commission had advised that such matches should be made more space and better facilities and parking places.

Maharaja Trophy shifted to Mysore on 2025 The domestic T20 League Maharaja Trophy, starting on August 11, was shifted to Mysore. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has to organize the Maharaja Trophy in Mysore due to lack of approval from the police.

Since then, questions have also been raised about the Women’s World Cup matches and the hosting of IPL matches here in 2026.
