- Supreme Court Quashes Gujarat Police Fir Against Imran Pratapgarhi

The Supreme Court on Friday, March 28 canceled the FIR lodged by the Gujarat Police against Congress Rajya Sabha MP Imran Pratapgarhi. The case was related to her Instagram post, in which a video clip was shared with the poem ‘Ai Khoon Ke Pyasi Baat Suno’.
A bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan approved the petition filed by Imran Pratapgarhi, saying that there is no crime against them.
The Supreme Court rejected the FIR lodged by the Gujarat Police and said-
It is impossible to live a dignified life without Article 21 of the Constitution. Even though a large number of people dislike the ideas expressed by others, the person’s right to express his views should be respected.
Justice Abhay Oka said that-
Literature, including poetry, drama, movies, stage shows, satire and art, makes life more meaningful … should be maintained by individuals’ ideas and emotions.
Imran was born in Chamupur Shuklan Shamsherganj village in Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh. His primary education took place at a nursery school in the village itself. Then came to the city of Pratapgarh, 15 km from the village for intermediate. He held Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya’s College, KP Inter College 12th present in Pratapgarh.
After intermediate, he graduated from Affiliated Degree College from Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Awadh University.
Allahabad University made Imran Imran Pratapgarhi.
Imran turned to Allahabad (now Prayagraj) for his masters. He obtained a Masters degree (MA) in Hindi literature from Allahabad University.
After reaching Prayagraj, he realized that he could make a career in Sher-o-Shayari. His first Ustad Adya Prasad Mishra was ‘Unmit’, who taught him the nuances of Urdu poetry.
Imran says in an interview that while performing at the functions of university and university departments, he started getting the identity of the poet. Our poetry is giving us identity.
They say that gradually his poetry started going to various forums and got a payment of 200-500-1000 rupees. He got 100 rupees in the first Mushaira. There were notes of 10–10, so that the envelope looked heavy.
‘Madrasa’ Najm got recognition
In 2008, Imran formally started participating in Mushayars. His Najm ‘Madrasa’ gave him an overnight identity. In this Najm, he raised the Muslim education system and social issues.
After this, compositions like ‘yes Main Kashmir Hoon’, ‘Palestine’, and ‘Najeeb’ strengthened their identity.
In 2017, he organized a blood donation camp at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, where 2,816 units of blood were donated as symbolic protest against lynching. The protest was named ‘Lahu Bol Hai’.
Uttar Pradesh’s highest civilian honor is also available
In 2016, he was honored with the ‘Yash Bharti Award’ by the Akhilesh Yadav government of Samajwadi Party. This is the highest civilian honor of Uttar Pradesh. In addition, he also won the National Awards 3 times in debate and poetry.
Joined Congress in 2018
In the year 2018, Imran decided to join the Indian National Congress. He met Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, after which he got a place in the party.
Fought Lok Sabha elections from Moradabad seat
In 2019, the Congress nominated him a Lok Sabha candidate from Moradabad seat in Uttar Pradesh. He lost to Samajwadi Party’s ST Hasan by a margin of more than 5 lakh votes (5,90,218).
Imran finished third in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections with 4.62% vote share.
On 3 June 2021, he was appointed the National President of the Minorities Department of All India Congress Committee (AICC). In this role, he raised the issues of the Muslim community and tried to strengthen the minority vote bank for the Congress.
Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra
In the year 2022, the Congress nominated him a Rajya Sabha candidate from Maharashtra. He was elected on July 5, 2022 and became a Rajya Sabha MP for the first time.
In the Rajya Sabha, Imran is a member of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry besides the Health and Family Welfare Committee.
Although some senior leaders of the party (eg Milind Deora, Sanjay Nirupam) objected to this appointment, his popularity and Rahul Gandhi’s support was in his favor.
