Former Indian football captain Sunil Chhetri has expressed deep concern over the stopping of the Indian Super League (ISL). He said, the situation at this time is very disturbing for Indian football and the players, coaches, medical staff, and all other people are scared and unhappy.

A new agreement did not happen between AIFF and FSDL

The 2025-26 season of ISL has been stopped because the Master Rights Agreement (MRA) has not yet been renewed between All India Federation (AIFF) and organizing company Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL).

The Supreme Court has directed AIFF not to make a new compromise with FSDL until the final decision on AIFF comes.

There was a 15 -year agreement in 2010

The 15 -year agreement was signed between FSDL and AIFF in 2010, under which FSDL gives AIFF Rs 50 crore every year and in turn it has the right to broadcast, management and promote Indian football (including ISL and national team).

Chhetri said that when he heard the news of ISL stay during the holiday, he felt that now he had more time to fit, but when it was found that this restriction is indefinite, his concern increased.

He appealed to all players and support staff to keep restraint and support each other. He expressed confidence that the football would start soon. AIFF has also said that it understands the importance of ISL, but it is his compulsion to follow the court order.
