Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the result of CGL Tier-1 exam. SSC is being accused of rigging regarding this result which came on 5th December. The question is how the cut-off marks increased instead of falling due to more candidates. Regarding this, trends like ‘SSC SCAM’ and ‘SSC Answer’ are being run on social media sites. More than 3 lakh tweets have been made in the last two days. No official response has come from SSC on this yet.

Three big questions are being raised on the results of CGL-

1. Two and a half times the vacancy, then how did the cut-off increase?

Candidates say that despite less vacancies in the last exam, the cut-off was low. This time, despite the vacancy increasing by two and a half times, how did the cut-off increase? An If the vacancy is increased then the cut-off should have been reduced and not increased.

2. How are so many selections taking place from a single centre?

Another user wrote, ‘How did the cut-off go so high? How are so many selections happening from one centre? Center information should be uploaded. When we checked, a large number of users on social media have posted lists of similar roll numbers and claimed that many candidates from the same center have passed the exam. However, it is difficult to say from these roll numbers that all are candidates from the same centre.

3. Are seats being given by paying?

It is being alleged that like many previous exams conducted by SSC, this too has been rigged. Allegations are being leveled against the center ranging from copying, leaking of papers to taking money and selling seats. One user says that there is something wrong with this result. Poor children did not have money to copy and buy seats. If this is not investigated then someone else will snatch away the rights of the hardworking children.

There is a long history of rigging in SSC exams.

This is not the first time that SSC has faced serious allegations of rigging in any exam. The matter reached the Supreme Court after allegations of irregularities in the 2017 SSC CGL exam. The Supreme Court had ordered the cancellation of the exam citing inability to identify the candidates who messed up. The Supreme Court said that sometimes tough decisions have to be taken so that a message can be given to the people involved in such activities (rigging) that no one will benefit from it.

There has been no response from SSC on the latest matter. The exam for the candidates who have passed Tier-1 will be held from 18 to 20 January 2025.

Satish Yadav, Maths teacher at Kautilya Academy, Bhopal, says that selection of many candidates from the same center definitely raises doubts. On the question of higher cut-off, he says that now children take the exam after preparing well. Therefore the cut-off may also increase. Questioning that is like questioning the hard work of capable children.
