Shardul Thakur has returned to the Test team after about 15 months. He played the last Test in December 2023.
Indian all -rounder Shardul Thakur has described newly appointed captain Shubman Gill and vice -captain Rishabh Pant as the future of the Indian team. He said- These two (Gill and Pant) are big players and are the future of Indian cricket.
The 33-year-old bowler said- Gill and Pant’s nature is different. Gills are calm and serious, while Pant is of flirtatious nature. This is also the specialty of these two. Apart from this, Shardul also spoke on the retirement of former Indian captain Rohit Sharma and veteran batsman Virat Kohli. Shardul said- staying around both of them felt safe.
Thakur said on Gill-Pant-
Gill and Pant have performed on big occasions and make them the promising player of India for the future.
On May 24, BCCI made Shubman Gill the captain of the Indian Test team. At the same time, Rishabh Pant was made the vice -captain of this team. Shardul said on Rohit-Kohli’s retirement-
All in the dressing room will miss Rohit-Kohli. Both were advancing Test cricket, but retirement is a personal call, when the player thinks that I would not be able to do as much a countrywite as before.
He said-
When senior players are around you feel safe. Now we will play with a new leadership. He will have different challenges. Everyone will have responsibility in their shoulders. There will be a shortage of guides, now the most senior Jaddu is.
On May 12, Virat Kohli and on 7 May Rohit Sharma announced retirement from Test cricket.
Shardul returns to Test team after 2023 Shardul Thakur has been selected in the Indian Test team for the tour of England. He has returned to the Test team after 17 months. Shardul played the last Test match at Centurion on December 2023. In that match, Shardul could take only one wicket. The match was won by South Africa by a margin of innings and 32 runs. The 2-match Test series was drawn 1–1.
After this series, Shardul was injured and had to stay out of England’s India tour. Then there were no part of the Test team against Bangladesh and New Zealand. Then when Gautam Gambhir became the head coach of the Indian team, he was excluded from BGT against Australia.
