1. PM Modi distributed 65 lakh owned property cards: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, January 18, virtually distributed 65 lakh proprietary property cards across 10 states and 2 union territories.
More than 50,000 villages from 12 states participated in this program.
- The full name of SVAMITVA Scheme is Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas.
- PM Modi launched this scheme as a pilot project in 9 states on 24 April 2021.
- In this scheme, mapping of lands and a record of owners is prepared through drone technology. Property owners are then provided with a card.
- 31 states and union territories have joined this scheme. West Bengal, Bihar, Nagaland and Meghalaya have not joined this scheme.
- Ownership Scheme: This scheme has been fully implemented in Tripura, Goa, Uttarakhand and Haryana.
2. Budget session will run from January 31 to April 4: This year the budget session of Parliament will run from January 31 to April 4, 2025.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present her eighth consecutive budget on February 1. He had made a record of presenting the budget for the seventh consecutive time in the year 2024.
- As per tradition, the session will begin on January 31 with President Draupadi Murmu addressing the joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. After this the economic survey will be presented.
- This time the budget session will be held in two phases. The first phase will run from January 31 to February 13, while the second phase will begin from March 10 and end on April 4. There will be a total of 27 meetings during the entire budget session.
- In the first phase, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reply to the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s address and Finance Minister Sitharaman will reply to the discussion on the budget.
- Whereas, in the second phase, the grant demands of various ministries will be discussed and the budget process will be completed.

5. ‘Blue Velvet’ director David Lynch passes away: Famous American filmmaker David Lynch died on January 16.
David Lynch was a famous Hollywood film director as well as screenplay writer, producer, musician and visual artist.
- Lynch received Oscar nominations in the Best Director category for his films The Elephant Man (1980), Blue Velvet (1986), and Mulholland Drive (2001).
- Apart from this, he also directed the television show ‘Twin Peaks’ in 1990-91.
- Lynch received the Honorary Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Oscar Awards 2020.

6. India’s growth rate will be highest at 6.5% in 2025: On January 17, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) presented its forecast regarding the growth rate of countries around the world in the years 2025 and 2026.
The IMF estimates that the world growth rate will be 3.3% in 2025 and 2026.
- According to IMF, India will grow fastest among large countries with a growth rate of 6.5%.
- At the same time, Pakistan growth rate is estimated to be 3% in 2025 and 4% in 2026, whereas it was 3.2% in 2024.
- Moreover, the US growth rate will decline marginally by 0.1% from 2024 to 2.7% in 2025, while it will reach 2.1% in 2026.
- India’s growth rate in 2023 was 8.2%, which will reduce to 6.5% in 2024.
- The growth rate in 2025 and 2026 is also expected to be 6.5%.
7. After 40 years, the swearing in of the US President will take place inside the Parliament: The swearing-in ceremony of newly elected President Donald Trump will not be held in the open but inside the US Capitol Hill (Parliament) due to severe cold.
The swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Donald Trump will take place on January 20, 2025.
- This will be the first time in 40 years that the swearing-in ceremony of the US President will be held inside the Parliament.
- The temperature is expected to be minus 7 degrees Celsius during Trump’s swearing-in.
- Earlier in 1985, Ronald Reagan’s second swearing-in also took place in the Capitol Rotunda.
- The temperature at that time was between minus 23 to minus 29 degrees Celsius.
- The Capitol Rotunda is beneath the dome in the Capitol Hill building. It is connected to the corridors leading to both houses of the US Parliament.
8. Industry Minister Piyush Goyal reached Belgium today: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will visit Brussels, Belgium from January 18 to 20 to improve trade and investment relations between India and the European Union (EU).
During this, Piyush Goyal (left) held high-level talks with Maros Shefkovic (right), Commissioner of the European Trade and Economic Security Commission.
- India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), Trade and Technology Council framework and issues related to bilateral trade are expected to be discussed in this conversation.
- During the visit, Goyal will also meet Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Belgian Foreign Trade Minister Bernard Quintin and representatives of leading Belgian industrial companies and the Indian community.
- Bilateral trade between India and the EU is estimated at over $180 billion in the financial year 2023-24.
9. Ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas: Israel’s cabinet has approved an agreement with Hamas for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said today, January 18, that the agreement will come into effect from Sunday.
- Under this agreement, the ceasefire will be implemented in three phases.
- In the first phase, all Palestinian women and children under 19 years of age imprisoned in Israel for 6 weeks will be released.
- In exchange, Hamas would release 33 of the 98 Israeli hostages, including women, children and men over the age of 50.
- On Saturday, the Israeli Justice Ministry released the names of 95 Palestinian prisoners who will be released on Sunday.
- Under the agreement, some more hostages will be released every 7 days.
