National Testing Agency i.e. NTA will not conduct any exam for recruitment to any job from the year 2025. This means that NTA will now conduct only entrance exams. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has given this information in the Parliament today i.e. on 17th December.
Pradhan said that till now NTA has been conducting 9 major recruitment exams. But now the focus of NTA will be only on the entrance exam for higher education. The recruitment exams withdrawn from NTA will now be conducted by central agencies like CBSE and state exam agencies.
Decision taken due to irregularities like NEET paper leak
This year, many irregularities like paper leak allegedly took place in the NEET-UG exam. After this, students had protested against getting big exams like NEET conducted by NTA. A panel was formed regarding reforms in the agency. The decision to remove NTA from the recruitment exam has been taken on the basis of the recommendations of this panel.
Dharmendra Pradhan told 4 more important things regarding NTA
- Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) will continue to be conducted once a year.
- NTA will be reorganized in the year 2025. At least 10 new posts are being created.
- Many changes will be made in the functioning of NTA.
- Whether the NEET-UG exam will be in computer based test (CBT mode) or in pen-paper mode will also be decided.
NTA is responsible for the work like governing body of 14 people, exam center and setting of question papers.
In the National Education Policy of 1986 and the Program of Action of 1992, a suggestion was made to conduct a uniform entrance test at the national level for admission to higher education. The discussion arose again in 2010 when some directors of IITs recommended the government to create a National Testing Agency.
In 2017, the Finance Minister announced the formation of NTA in his budget speech. Its aim is to provide quality testing service i.e. conducting exams for admission and scholarship in higher educational institutions of the country. Apart from this, NTA has also been conducting many recruitment exams, which will be withdrawn from NTA from 2025.
In the last 7 years, most of the controversies have taken place in the entrance exams conducted by NTA.
A large number of aspirants appear for the entrance exam. NTA has faced the most controversies regarding these exams. There has been a demand that NTA should not conduct big exams like NEET and UG. Despite this, NTA will continue to conduct entrance exams. Only the responsibility of conducting the recruitment exam has been taken back from him.
