Indian selectors have sought Shami’s fitness report from National Cricket Academy physio Nitin Patel. Shami is currently playing for Bengal in the Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Patel is with the team during the Bengal match to keep an eye on his fitness.
BCCI sources told Dainik Bhaskar that the selection committee has asked for the fitness report of Mohammed Shami. Based on the report, a final decision will be taken regarding sending Shami on Australia tour.
Apart from a selector, Nitin Patel was also present to see Shami’s fitness in the Ranji matches against Madhya Pradesh and Bengal. At that time, the fitness report said that Shami needed to regain his match fitness by playing more domestic matches. After which Shami was included in the Bengal team in the Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Here too, apart from the selection committee members, the physio was also present during the Bengal match.
Soon the physio will submit his report, after which the team management and selection committee can take a decision on sending him to Australia after discussion.
Shami returned from Ranji match after a year Shami returned to the field in the Ranji Trophy match after almost a year. He played for the Bengal team in the match played against Madhya Pradesh in Indore between 13 and 16 November. Shami took 4 wickets for 54 runs in 19 overs in the first innings against Madhya Pradesh. Whereas in the second innings he took 3 wickets for 102 runs in 24.2 overs.
Played last international in World Cup, got ankle surgery 34-year-old Shami played the ODI World Cup final against Australia on 19 November 2023. After this he did not play any international match. In January this year, he had ankle surgery in England. For the last several months, Shami was in the rehab camp at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
