1. Missing Ladies out of Oscar race: The film ‘Missing Ladies’ is out of the race for the 97th Oscar Award-2025. This film could not be included in the list of final 15 films. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) made this announcement on the morning of December 18.
The nominations for the Oscar Award will be announced on January 17, 2025. The Oscar Awards Ceremony will take place on March 2, 2025. Winners will be announced in this.

2. Russia announced to make cancer vaccine: Russia’s Health Ministry announced the creation of a cancer vaccine on December 17. This information was given on radio by Andrei Kaprin, director of the Radiology Medical Research Center of the Russian Health Ministry. This vaccine will be administered free of cost to Russian citizens from next year. However, this claim of Russia has not been confirmed internationally yet.
Director Andrei told that Russia has developed its own mRNA vaccine against cancer. Clinical trials of the vaccine have shown that it helps prevent tumor growth.
- mRNA or messenger RNA is a small part of the human genetic code, which makes proteins in our cells.
- It can also be understood in simple language that when a virus or bacteria attacks our body, mRNA technology sends a message to our cells to make proteins to fight that virus or bacteria.
- With this, our immune system gets the essential proteins it needs and antibodies are formed in our body.
- Its biggest advantage is that it can make the vaccine more quickly than the conventional vaccine.
- Along with this, the immunity of the body also gets strengthened. This cancer vaccine is the first vaccine based on mRNA technology.
3. NSA Ajit Doval met Chinese Foreign Minister: National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, who visited China, met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on October 18 in Beijing. During the meeting between the two, several issues including maintaining peace and stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and restoring bilateral relations which were stalled for more than four years were discussed.
The meeting between Doval and Wang Yi started at 8 am Indian time. After the meeting, China said that it will implement the agreements made with India.
- Doval had arrived on October 17 to attend the 23rd special representative level meeting between India and China.
- The Indian delegation was also present along with Doval.
- An agreement was reached between India and China in October this year to resolve the border dispute. For this, both the countries had made Ajit Doval and Wang Yi as Special Representatives (SR).
- This is the first time since 2019 that a senior Indian official is visiting China. Earlier in 2019, Foreign Minister Jaishankar had visited Beijing.

4. Ravichandran Ashwin retires from international cricket: Ravichandran Ashwin has retired from international cricket. He played 287 matches including all three formats and took 765 wickets. Ashwin is India’s second highest wicket taker bowler. Ahead of him is only Anil Kumble, who has taken 953 wickets.
Ashwin announced his retirement as soon as the Gaba test was over.

6. Rohan Jaitley re-elected DDCA President: The Rohan Jaitley-led panel won the Delhi District and Cricket Association (DDCA) elections on 17 December. Rohan Jaitley defeated former cricketer and TMC MP Kirti Azad by a margin of 800 votes. Rohan got 1,577 votes, while Kirti Azad could get only 777 votes.
With the victory, Rohan Jaitley (left) became DDCA president for the second time. He is the son of former Union Minister late Arun Jaitley.
- Shikha Kumar won the post of Vice President by getting 1,246 votes. He defeated his nearest rival Rakesh Kumar Bansal by 536 votes.
- For the post of Secretary, Ashok Sharma got 893 votes, while Vinod Tihara got 744 votes.
- Amit Grover won the post of Joint Secretary by 1189 votes, while Harish Singla won the post of Treasurer by securing 1328 votes, defeating his rival Gurpreet Singh Sarin.
- Jaitley panel also won all the 7 posts of DDCA Director. In this, Aditya Jain (712), Anand Verma (985), Manjeet Singh (1050), Navdeep Malhotra (1034), Shyam Sundar Sharma (1165), Vikas Katyal (1024) and Vikram Kohli (939) won.
- DDCA elections were held on 13, 14 and 15 December, with a total of 3,748 member voters. Of these, 2,412 members had cast their votes.

History of 18th December: On this day in 1989, Sachin Tendulkar played his first ODI cricket match against Pakistan. He made his debut in ‘The Jinnah Stadium’ of Gujranwala city of Pakistan.
