The 2-day long IPL mega auction has been completed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. 182 players were sold in the auction, out of which 62 are foreign players. Right to match was used 8 times. 10 franchises spent Rs 639.15 crore.

Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in history, he was bought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for Rs 27 crore. Bihar’s left hand batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored a century in U-19 against Australia at the age of 13, has become the youngest player of IPL. Vaibhav was bought by Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Highlights of IPL Mega Auction…

1. Pant is the most expensive player

Rishabh Pant was bought by Lucknow for Rs 27 crore, Shreyas Iyer was bought by Punjab for Rs 26.75 crore. England’s Jos Buttler was the most expensive foreigner, he was bought by Gujarat Titans for Rs 15.75 crore.

2. Venkatesh is the most expensive all-rounder

Venkatesh Iyer was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 23.75 crore. Australia’s Marcus Stoinis is the most expensive foreign all-rounder, he was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 11 crore.

3. Arshdeep is the most expensive pacer

Arshdeep Singh was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 18 crore. Josh Hazlewood, Jofra Archer and Trent Boult were the most expensive foreign pacers. All three were bought by different teams for Rs 12.50 crore.

4. Yuzvendra is the most expensive spinner

Yuzvendra Chahal was bought by Punjab Kings by paying the highest amount of Rs 18 crore. Ravichandran Ashwin was also sold for Rs 9.75 crore. Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmed was the most expensive foreign spinner, he was bought by Chennai for Rs 10 crore.

5. Rasikh Dar is the most expensive uncapped player

Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Rasikh Dar got 20 times more than his base price. He had entered the auction with a base price of Rs 30 lakh. RCB bought the right-arm pacer for Rs 6 crore.

6. The most shocking decision:

  • Bengaluru did not use RTM on Will Jacques

RCB released Will Jacques in the mega auction and did not use the RTM (Right to Match) card for him. By using the RTM card, the team can include the old player back in their team after his bid ends. Fans and cricket experts expected that RCB would definitely use the RTM card for Will Jacques, but it did not happen.

  • Priyansh, who hit 6 sixes in 6 balls, was sold for 13 times the price.

Delhi batsman Priyansh Arya was bought by Punjab for almost 13 times the base price i.e. Rs 3.80 crore. His base price was Rs 30 lakh. This will be his IPL debut. Priyansh had hit 6 sixes in 6 balls in the Delhi Premier League.

7. 13 year old Vaibhav is the youngest player

Rajasthan bought 13 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi for Rs 1.10 crore. His base price was Rs 30 lakh. With this, he has also become the youngest player in IPL history. A player from Bihar will debut in IPL from this season. Vaibhav had scored a century against Australia in Under-19. Vaibhav made his debut in first class at the age of 12.

8. Arjun Tendulkar was bought for the second time

Mumbai Indians made Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar a part of their team for the second time. At first no team showed interest in buying him. Arjun was bought by Mumbai at the base price of Rs 30 lakh. Recently, Arjun took 5 wickets while playing for Goa in domestic cricket.

9. Top-5 big players who were not sold

Many big players remained unsold in the auction. Players like Australian David Warner and Steve Smith, Kiwi player Kane Williamson and Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur were not bought by any team. Afghan pacer Naveen Ul Haq also remained unsold.
