India is preparing to host the Olympic Games in 2036. For this, a multi sports complex is being built in Ahmedabad.
India has presented the name of Ahmedabad to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for hosting the 2036 Olympic Games. The Indian delegation, including the Union Sports Ministry, the Government of Sports, Gujarat and IOA President PT Usha, spoke to the IOC in a meeting held in Lauzan, Switzerland on Tuesday.
The meeting took place at a time when the new International Olympic Council (IOC) Chairman Kirsti Coentree banned the future Olympic host bidding process. IOC members want the hosts to have more role in the election of the country, hence a new process will be prepared by forming a working group.
Coventry is the first woman to become IOC President.
Why was Ahmedabad chosen? For the first time in the Olympics from India, a city has been officially named. India’s Olympic Cumnty said, “60 crore young Indians will get an opportunity to watch Olympics in the country for the first time by organizing Olympics in Ahmedabad.” At the same time, India, giving the message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, will make the Olympics a family -like experience for people around the world.
Trying to make dreams come true: Harsh Sanghvi Gujarat Sports Minister Harsh Sanghvi said, “We are trying to realize this shared dream with IOC.” In the coming months we are ready to be a strong partner.
Olympic grand event will be held in India: PT Usha IOA President PT Usha said, “Olympics will not be just a grand event in India, it will be a historic event to affect for generations.”
Who is getting a challenge from India? India is not alone in the 2036 Olympic race. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turki (Turkey) and Chile are also involved in the race for host.
IOC’s new change The new president of IOC said, IOC members demanded that they be given a big role in the election process. For this reason, a working group will be formed to reconsider the new host policy.
