ICC (International Cricket) has suspended USA cricket (USAC) due to breaking the rules. This means that USAC will no longer be able to use the rights of complete membership of ICC.
However, US cricket teams will be able to participate in ICC tournaments and 2028 Olympic preparations. The ICC will now give the USAC a chance to improve and monitor it to remove suspension in future. This step has been taken to further strengthen cricket in the US and improve its image.
Why suspension happened
The ICC first placed USAC on notice for non-transportation at the annual general meeting of 2024. The USAC was given 12 months to improve its shortcomings. In July 2024, ICC members directed the USAC to maintain “notice” and conduct independent and fair elections and to improve governance.
According to ICC, the ban imposed on USAC for these reasons
- Lack of administrative structure: The USAC failed to implement a functional governance structure.
- Lack of progress in achieving the status of national governing body with the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC):The USAC did not take any concrete steps in this direction.
- Damage to the image of cricket: Some of the steps of the USAC damaged the reputation of cricket at the US and globally.

- The ICC made it clear that the suspension would not have an impact on the participation of the US team.
- The US team will be able to play in the T20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka in February 2026.
