Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka has been given the command of the team.
ICC on Friday released the Men’s ODI Team of the Year for 2024. It does not include any player from India, Australia, England, New Zealand and Africa.
Maximum 4 players from Sri Lanka have got the opportunity in the team. 3-3 players from Pakistan and Afghanistan are included. Sherfane Rutherford of West Indies has also got a place. Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka has been given the command of the team.
Saim Ayub (Pakistan) 2024 has been a great season for this left-handed batsman from Pakistan. Saim made his debut only in November. He scored a total of 125 runs in three ODIs in Australia, followed shortly by his first ODI century in Zimbabwe. He has scored centuries in three of his last five innings, including two in South Africa in December.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz (Afghanistan) Rahmanullah Gurbaz made his debut in 2021. Afghanistan played series against Sri Lanka, Ireland, South Africa and Bangladesh in 2024 and Gurbaz performed well in all of them.
Pathum Nissanka (Sri Lanka) Nissanka’s unbeaten 210 against Afghanistan in February was the sixth highest score as an opener in ODI history. Nissanka is the second player to score the most ODI international runs in 2024. His compatriot Kusal Mendis is at the top.
Kusal Mendis (wicket keeper) (Sri Lanka) Mendis is the top scorer of ODI 2024. He has 742 runs in his name last year. His highest score was 143 runs against New Zealand in November, which was the 27th highest score by a wicketkeeper in ODI history.
Charith Asalanka (Captain) (Sri Lanka) Asalanka started the year with a century against Zimbabwe. Which was his only century of the calendar year. He scored half-centuries in four different matches.
Sherfane Rutherford (West Indies) Rutherford made his debut in December 2023. He played nine ODI matches in 2024. The 26-year-old Guyana player scored 425 runs in seven innings for West Indies, which is faster than one run a ball.
Azmatullah Omarzai (Afghanistan) Umarzai’s all-round performance came in handy for Afghanistan in ODI matches in 2024. During this period he performed well with both bat and ball.
Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka) In January last year, Hasaranga took 7 wickets for 19 runs against Zimbabwe. Which is the fifth best performance in an innings in ODI history.
Shaheen Shah Afridi (Pakistan) Shaheen Shah Afridi made a big impact despite playing only six ODIs in the last calendar year. He took 15 wickets during this period.
Haris Rauf (Pakistan) Rauf took 10 wickets in the Pakistan three-match series on Australia tour in 2024. Which also included his five wickets in Adelaide.
Allah Ghazanfar (Afghanistan) 18-year-old Ghazanfar made his ODI debut against Ireland in March 2024. Ghazanfar, who took 6 wickets for 26 runs against Bangladesh in November, became the fifth youngest bowler to take five wickets in ODIs.
