On 12 January 2025, Jacob Bethel made a great attempt to take a boundary catch in the BBL game.

The International Cricket Council has made changes in the rules of catching catch on the boundary. This change will be applicable from October 2026. Now players can bounce the ball only once in the air outside the boundary and catch a catch. On the first several occasions, the players standing on the boundary used to bounce the ball outside the boundary and bring it inside the boundary and catch it. Now we will not be able to do this from 2026 October.

At the same time, two players take a catch on the boundary, so during the coach of both the players, you will have to stay inside the boundary. That is, a player bounces the ball on the boundary in the air, he goes out and the other player goes outside the boundary and sends it inside the boundary, then that player will have to come inside the boundary before holding the catch, the catch will not be valid if this is not done.

Question was raised on Michael Neser’s boundary catch in BBL In fact, the International Cricket Council has changed the rules of catch on the boundary after a question raised after Michael Naser caught in BBL in 2023. After this catch, the ICC asked the Melbourne Cricket Club to review in the catch rules.

What was the matter In the match played between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers in BBL in 2023, Batter Jordan Silk of Sydney Sixers played a shot on the long off. Brisbane Heat’s builder Makal Naser grabbed the ball but could not make his balance, after which he bounced the ball in the air outside the boundary, then went outside the boundary and grabbed the ball and jumped into the air again and then came inside and caught the catch.

The umpire termed Silk out. But silk was not happy with this. There was a lot of controversy over this catch. Only after which the rules were reviewed. Earlier, Melbourne Cricket Club announced two changes.

First- 2 new balls are used in ODIs ICC implemented the rules for the use of 2 new balls in ODIs. Under this, a new ball will be used from both ends. Only one ball will be used after 34 overs.

After this, only 1 ball will be used from 35 to 50 overs. The fielding team will select one of the two balls used for 35 to 50 overs. The chosen ball will be used at both ends in the remaining time of the match. At the same time, if an ODI match is played less than 25 overs due to rain or some other reason, only 1-1 ball will be used in both innings.

This new rule in ODIs will be applicable from July 2 from the ODI series played between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Second- Change in Concisition Substitute Rules Now the teams will have to mention the names of five convention replacement players to the match referee before the match starts. One of these 5 players will be wicketkeeper, a batsman, a fast bowler, a spinner and one all -rounder.

These rules will apply after the final of the World Test Championship 2025 in Test cricket when the 2 -match Test series will begin between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh from 17 June.
