Power lifter Lakshy Kundu gets a gold medal.
Power Lifter Lakshy Kundu, Hisar, Haryana, created history for India in the World Bench Press Championship 2025 held in Dramen city of Norway. He won the gold medal with a brilliant performance and also broke the Commonwealth and Asian Records

Top athletes from all over the world participated in this prestigious competition, which lasted from 18 to 24 May, but Lakshy Kundu was dominated. All three stages of his performance were notable: In the first attempt, 170 kg in the first attempt, the second attempt raised 177.5 kg (the previous Asian record 176 kg) and the third attempt raised 182.5 kg (new Commonwealth and Asian Record) in the third attempt.
With this, Lakshy Kundu has become the first Indian to win gold in the World Bench Press Championship.

This victory is from all over India- Lakshy Kundu Happily, Lakshy said, “This medal is not only mine, this is my country, my coach Mr. Rajesh Duhan, and my parents. Those who guided me every moment and assured me that I can do it.”
Lakshy has been training at Spartan Power Lifting Academy, Fountain Chowk, Hisar for the last two years. His coach Rajesh Duhan is a well-known powerlifting coach of the country, under whose supervision many youth are shining at the national and international level.
Military discipline strengthened Lakshy’s father Rajesh Kumar is a retired officer from the Indian Army, while his mother Nirmal Devi is an ideal housewife. Lakshy said, “My father’s discipline and mother’s affection is my greatest strength. He never taught me to give up.”
