1. Khelo India Winter Games 2025 begins: Khelo India Winter Games 2025 started in Ladakh today, 23 January.
Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated the Khelo India Winter Games 2025 at the Nawang Dorje Stobdan Sports Complex in Lehon.
- 19 teams from states and union territories will compete in two sports – ice hockey and ice skating for 5 days.
- This year, Khelo India Winter Games 2025 will be organized in two parts.
- The first part is being held in Ladakh, while the second part will be held in Jammu and Kashmir (which includes sports like skiing) from February 22-25.
- Himachal Pradesh has the largest contingent of 78 athletes and support staff.
- Whereas 62 from Haryana, 52 from Ladakh and 48 from Maharashtra will compete in the Ladakh edition. Ladakh will host the Winter Games for the second time.
- It is the 5th edition of the Winter Games.

2. Gay marriage got legal recognition in Thailand: In the East Asian country Thailand, gay marriage became legal today, January 23.
Thailand is the third major country in Asia, after Taiwan and Nepal, to recognize same-sex marriage.
- In 2001, the Netherlands became the first country to allow same-sex marriage.
- After this, more than 30 countries have recognized this marriage.
- However, same sex marriage is illegal in India.
- In India, there is Hindu Marriage Act-1955 for people of Hindu, Jain, Buddhist and Sikh religions.
- Whereas Christians marry under Christian Marriage Act-1872 and Muslims marry under their religious law, Muslim Personal Law.
- According to all these laws, marriage can take place only between a man and a woman.
3. Shawn Curran becomes director of US Secret Service: US President Donald Trump has selected ‘Shawn Curran’ as the director of the Secret Service on January 22.
Trump was shot by an attacker during a rally in July last year, which missed his ear. (Shawn Curran in the circle)
- Shawn Curran was leading the security team during the deadly attack on Trump in Pennsylvania last year.
- New York resident Shawn Curran started his career as a special agent in the Newark Field Office of the Secret Service.
- He has also worked in the Special Department with former President Barack Obama.
- However, Karan has not worked in any headquarters of the Secret Service.
- He is being appointed as a director directly from an agent.

4. Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurates Hindu Spiritual and Seva Mela: Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Hindu Spiritual and Seva Fair (HSSF) today, January 23, at the GMDC Ground in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Amit Shah reached Ahmedabad for the second time in 10 days i.e. on 23 January.
- Hindu Spiritual and Seva Sansthan, Gujarat has organized this fair from 23rd to 26th January at Vastrapur GMDC Ground.
- It has 11 Kundi Samrasata Yagyashala, live darshan of more than 11 main temples of the country, replicas of more than 15 main temples, Kumbh Mela darshan, Ganga Aarti, forest villages displaying tribal culture etc.
- Earlier this fair was organized in 2018.
AGREEMENT
5. Maharashtra government signs 54 MoUs worth Rs 15,70,000 crore: Maharashtra government signed 54 MoUs worth Rs 15,70,000 crore at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Among the agreements signed in Davos on January 22, the largest investment agreement (Rs 3.5 lakh crore) was of Reliance Group.
- Reliance Industries Group will invest Rs 3.5 lakh crore in sectors including petrochemicals, polyester, renewable energy, bio energy, green hydrogen, industrial estate development, telecommunication and real estate.
- An agreement worth Rs 42,535 crore was signed with Vardhan Lithium in the electronics sector.
- An agreement of Rs 43,000 crore was signed with Blackstone.
- An agreement of Rs 31,200 crore was signed with Indorama.
- An agreement worth Rs 10,000 crore was signed with L&T Defence.
- An agreement worth Rs 5000 crore was signed with Renaissance Solar and Electronics Materials.
- The agreement with Greta Energy will result in an investment of Rs 10,319 crore in Chandrapur.
- These agreements will create approximately 15.95 lakh jobs in the state.
6. Telangana signs 3 MoUs with Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Ltd: Telangana government presented Chief Minister A. at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21. Signed 3 Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) in the presence of Revanth Reddy.
Revanth Reddy is leading the ‘Telangana Rising’ delegation.
- Under the agreements, MEIL will invest Rs 11,000 crore to set up 2160 modern pumped storage projects.
- It will create more than 1,000 jobs during construction and 250 jobs during operations.
- Along with 1,000 MW capacity BESS, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects will also be set up in Telangana with an investment of Rs 3,000 crore, which will generate more than 1,000 direct and 3,000 indirect jobs.
- At the same time, a luxury wellness resort will also be established at Ananthagiri near Hyderabad at an estimated cost of Rs 1,000 crore, which will generate more than 2,000 jobs during its construction and operation.

7. Samsung launch event held in California: The launch event of South Korean tech company Samsung took place on the night of 22-23 January at San Jose SAP Center in California city of America.
This is the first launch event of Samsung company, in which the next generation Galaxy S-series devices were introduced.
- Samsung has launched its most powerful smartphone series Galaxy S25.
- This includes the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25.
- All three smartphones have been launched with Corning Gorilla Armor 2 display glass for protection and Nightography, a new AI feature for night photography.
- Apart from this, many advanced AI features like S24 series note assist, chat assist, real-time language translation, circle to search will also be available in these phones. Software security updates will be available with S25 series smartphones till 2032.
- Their price starts from Rs 80,999, which goes up to Rs 1,65,999.

8. BSF launches Operation ‘Sard Hawa’: The Border Security Force (BSF) has started Operation ‘Sard Hawa’ on the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan.
This operation is being conducted in view of Republic Day, 26 January.
- Under this operation, all BSF soldiers and officers will maintain vigil on the border till January 29 and will monitor it with modern weapons.
- The objective of Operation ‘Sard Hawa’ is to prevent any kind of infiltration and undesirable activities during the winter season.
- During this operation, the border will be monitored 24 hours so that immediate action can be taken on any suspicious activity.
- BSF was formed on December 1, 1965. It works under the Home Ministry of the Government of India.

9. Jai Sabarwal got second rank in World Jumping Challenge: India’s young horse rider Jai Singh Sabarwal has secured second rank in the B category of the World Jumping Challenge.
Jai Sabarwal finished second with 2.59 points in the championship rankings released on Sunday, January 19.
- Russia’s Alla remained in first place with Vita Kastelik (0.12 points).
- Whereas, Juan Francisco of Ecuador (2.71 points) remained at third place.
- 183 horse riders from 27 countries took part in this competition.
- 15 year old Jai has won 23 medals in different tournaments held last year 2024.
- These include 14 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze medals.
- Jai, a resident of Mumbai, has won 35 to 40 medals in big tournaments in just 4 years.
- He started participating in competitions in the year 2021.

10. PM Modi to inaugurate ‘Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025’: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate ‘Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025’ on February 28 at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
The objective of this conclave is to increase domestic and international investment in various sectors.
- After the inauguration, the PM will also address a gathering of industrialists and investors from about 12 countries.
- This two-day conclave, running from 28 to 29 February, will be attended by investors from many countries including Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and Japan.
