Former England cricketer and veteran umpire Dicky Bird died at the age of 92. Yorkshire County Club gave this information on Tuesday evening. The club issued a statement saying-
One of the most loved faces of cricket is no more among us today. Dicky Bird achieved a lot of success as an umpire in international cricket. His name will be remembered as the most popular match official in cricket history.
Dicky Bird played cricket for the Yorkshire and Lessestershire Club in England, but he got more recognition as an umpire. Dickey Bird scored 3314 runs in 93 matches first-class career. His batting average in cricket career was just 20, in which he scored 2 centuries and 14 fifty.
Dicky Birds were umpires in 66 Tests and 69 ODIs. He umpiring in three World Cup finals. He was also the President of the Yorkshire Cricket Club in 2014. Apart from all this, he also witnessed India’s first World Cup win. He umpiring in the final match played between India and West Indies in 1983.
