The National Democratic Alliance i.e. NDA on Sunday, August 17, C.P. Radhakrishnan was declared as the candidate for the Vice Presidential election of India. This decision was taken in the meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Board. This meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself.

In fact, late night of July 21, the then Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post citing health reasons. At the same time, the election of the new Vice President is going to be held on September 9, 2025.

The full name of CP Radhakrishnan is Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan. He was born in an ordinary family of the Kongu Vellalar Gounder community in Tiruppur.

During schooling education, Radhakrishnan was active in the Games. He was a champion at the college level in table tennis and was also interested in long -range races, cricket and volleyball.

Radhakrishnan’s political career started from college days. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Jana Sangh at the age of 17. Then, in the year 1974, he became a member of the State Executive Committee. Radhakrishnan later emerged as a major BJP leader of Jana Sangh in Tamil Nadu.

In 1996, the Bharatiya Janata Party made Radhakrishnan the secretary of Tamil Nadu BJP. After this, the BJP fielded him in the 1998 Lok Sabha elections. He was elected MP from Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency for the first time this year.

In this Rath Yatra, he campaigned against connecting Indian rivers, elimination of untouchability and terrorism in India. During this, he covered all the assembly constituencies of Tamil Nadu.

In the 2000s, Radhakrishnan was also actively involved in the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party organization in Kerala. Later he was the BJP in -charge for Kerala from 2020 to 2022.

Radhakrishnan was the Chairman of the Coir Board of India from 2016 to 2020, which comes under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

Having employed as the Governor of Maharashtra

Radhakrishnan was appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand on 18 February 2023. During this, he visited all 24 districts in 4 months. Met the citizens and officials of the state.

He then took over additional charge as Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry between March 2024 to August 2024. Then on 31 July 2024, he was made the Governor of Maharashtra. He is still working in this post.
