The Education Ministry, along with the Central Board of Education (CBSE) on 19 February, held a meeting in the next academic year 2026-27 to organize a board exam twice.
While sharing on social media, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan wrote- The scheme of these discussions will soon be laid by CBSE for public consultation. It is being decided to conduct two board exams to create a stress -free teaching environment for the students.
Board exams usually begin in February and last a month.
Ask for feedback in public domain
The Education Ministry has also sought a public domain feedback from the board. In this, the board has asked the board to prepare a format to tell how both examinations will be conducted. The suggestions will be considered before preparing the final draft. What will be the option
After the CBSE exam is held twice a year, the top score of students will be considered final. This start will be applicable from 2026-27.
Students can have three options in this
- Take the exam once a year.
- Both appear in the exams.
- If you are not able to perform well in a subject, to re -give that subject in the second exam.
There will be no supplementary examination after the new system is implemented.
Will it change with the exam twice a year According to sources, if the examination system starts twice a year, CBSE may have to significantly reduce this difference between the paper. So that it can be decided that both examinations should be conducted and all the results should be declared by June. This may mean that the examinations will have to be finished within a week or 10 days.
Supplementary exam will end
There will be no supplementary examination after the new system is implemented. Students will get the option to give the exam once a year or join both exams.
If a student takes both exams, his best score will be considered a final. Also, if a student is not able to perform well in a subject, he will be able to give that subject again at the second time.
If sources are to be believed, it will not be necessary that students should give exams of all subjects in the first and second examinations and in the second also the same. He will be able to take the examination of only the subject in which his marks are not good to improve his number.
Initially only the rules will come for 10th board
Initially, the central government wants to start the 10th board examinations of CBSE affiliated schools. According to the CBSE official, when to start it for the students of Class 12th, it will be considered only when the decision will be taken on the basis of how successful the examination proves twice in the 10th.
CBSE syllabus starts abroad from 2026-27
The Ministry also ordered the government to start global syllabus for foreign schools for academic year 2026-27. In a meeting chaired by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, CBSE has been asked to prepare a plan to start CBSE syllabus for foreign schools in the next academic year.
According to the meeting, CBSE will introduce dual examination system from next year. The board is also considering ending class 10th board examination within two weeks.
10th board exams run a month
The exam program of the 10th board is prepared in such a way that if the students have selected two subjects simultaneously, then two papers should not be on the same date together.
Meaning there will be a one-month schedule, in which there may be a difference of three to 10 days between two paper. For example, this year Class 10th board exams started from 15 February 2025 and will run till 18 March 2025.
Opening a new way for students
The National Education Policy is proposing board examinations twice a year to give more opportunities to 2020 students. Board exams usually begin in February, and this time limit is likely to continue with the new two-exam process.
Sources said that due to more winter conditions in some parts of the country, it would be difficult and challenging to conduct the first exam. This will also reduce the time of reading students.
Meeting held on 19 February
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan discussed with CBSE, NCERT, KVS, NVS and many school officials to conduct examinations 2 times a year. He also released its information by tweeting.
National Curriculum Framework Also in the proposal of conducting board exams twice
In August last year, the Ministry of Education released the National Curriculum Framework (NCF). In the NCF too, there was talk of giving students the option to give board exam twice a year. In October 2023, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had said that there will be board exams twice a year but students will not have to give exams both times. Students can give board exams in that atampt whenever they want.
Giving board exam twice like JEE will be optional
Its draft was prepared in August 2024. During this, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had said- Just as students have the option to give joint entrance exam for admission in engineering colleges two years a year, similarly students will be able to give exams of 10th or 12th twice a year.
Whatever the best score of both board exams will be selected for the final marks. However, giving board exam twice will be completely optional.
CBSE is designing calendar to conduct board exam twice
CBSE will have to design calendars for 12th students in such a way that board exams can be done twice a year and after 12th, there is no effect on admission process in undergraduate courses after 12th.
According to the information, after the instructions of the Ministry of Education in August 2024, CBSE is planning in a logistics or systematic manner to conduct exam conduct twice a year.
