South Africa captain Vian Mulder scored 367 runs against Zimbabwe in the Bulveo Test.
In the second Test being played against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo against Zimbabwe, South Africa captain Vian Mulder had a chance to break the world record of Brian Lara’s 400*. When lunch took place on the second day, Mulder returned an unbeaten pavilion on a score of 367 but during the break he declared the innings.
He did not go to break Lara’s record because he felt that this record should remain in Lara’s name.
If I get this opportunity again, I will do the same After the second day’s play was over, in an interview given to Shaun Pollock on Supersport, Mulder said, ‘First of all I thought we have scored enough runs and now we should bowl. And the second thing is that Brian Lara is a legend player. The person of his stature deserves to maintain this record. I spoke to Shuks (South Africa Head Coach Shukri Konrad) and he felt the same. I think I will do the same even if I get this opportunity again.
Lara is the only batsman to score 400 runs in the Test innings. He scored this score against England in 2004 in Antigua.
Mark Taylor also did this for Don Bradman Mark Taylor became the fourth Australian player to score a triple century in Test cricket on 16 October 1998. He remained unbeaten on 334 runs on the second day of the second Test against Pakistan, which was equal to the best test score of Sir Donald Bradman, after which captain Mark Taylor declared Australia’s innings so that he could not get beyond Bradman’s best test score.
Mulder completed triple century in 297 balls Mulder, playing his first Test as a captain, scored the fastest triple century after Virender Sehwag. Sehwag did this feat in 278 balls against South Africa in 2008. Mulder also hit 49 fours and 4 sixes in his innings.
The biggest score for South Africa Mulder became the second South African batsman to score triple century after Hashim Amla. He also broke Amla’s record of 311 runs. Mulder crossed Amla’s record by hitting the blessing of Blessing Mujbani through a cover.
