1. First reason: Why to give free points to Pakistan
BCCI officials say that the Indian team can only buy Pakistan while playing the tournament, but by doing so, Pakistan will get free points. Pakistan can also go to the finals due to these points and can also become champions. Why should we give free points to Pakistan.
2. Second reason: India’s dominance in the Asian block may weaken
India has dominated the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) so far. If the Indian team buckets Pakistan, the tournament will be flopped. This will also affect the tournament’s earnings. Due to this, India’s status in ACC can be weak and Pakistan can run the rest of the countries against India.
3. Third reason: BCCI may also weaken in ICC politics
BCCI is also in a strong position in the politics of the International Cricket Council (ICC) due to the solidarity of the Asian block. If voting is required on any issue, then all Asian countries support BCCI on most issues. These include Pakistan. The Pakistani board also supported BCCI in the matter of making Jai Shah a ICC chairman. Earlier, India and Pakistan have been voting in a camp for hosting the big ICC tournament.
If the Indian team books Pakistan, the solidarity of the Asian block will be less and BCCI’s position may be weak in ICC politics.
4. Fourth reason: Broadcaster does not want to face displeasure
The BCCI official said that in 2024 itself, the broadcast rights of the next four Asia Cups have been sold for $ 170 million (about Rs 1500 crore). The Asia Cup rights have received such a price only due to India-Pakistan matches. Advertising slots of India-Pakistan match are sold for 25 to 30 lakh rupees for every 10 seconds. At the same time, this amount for other matches of India decreases half. If the Indian team does not play with Pakistan, then the broadcaster will not be able to sell these slots at good prices and there will be huge loss to broadcasters. In such a situation, BCCI’s credibility will be reduced in the future of broadcasters.
So is it sure to have an India-Pakistan match in Asia
No. BCCI may want the India-Pakistan match but the government has to take the final decision on this issue. Board officials said that if the government instructs us not to play with Pakistan, then we cannot do anything. Then we have to buy Pakistan. However, the government has not yet stopped BCCI from playing against Pakistan in a multi national tournament.

Bhaskar also contacted the Sports Ministry in this matter. Ministry officials said that no instructions have been received from the government so far. The Asia Cup is to be held in September. By that time, the campaign for Bihar elections will intensify and the pressure on the government will increase not to allow India-Pakistan matches. It is possible that the Indian team goes to play Asia Cup and on one occasion Pakistan’s boys. However, the situation on this is not clear right now.
