Former Indian cricketer Roger Binny has left the post of BCCI President. According to reports, Board Vice President Rajiv Shukla has been made the acting chairman. Shukla, 65, was currently the Vice President of BCCI.
Recently, BCCI sources had told PTI, the current president Roger Binny will turn 70 in the month of July. According to the BCCI rule, any officer will have to step down after the age of 70 years.
Binny took over as the chairman of the board in 2022 in place of Sourav Ganguly. He turned 70 on 19 July.
Rajiv Shukla was the post of Vice President of BCCI since 2020 According to reports, Rajiv Shukla will take charge for a few months. He will work as a acting chairman till he is elected the new president. Shukla has been working as Vice President of BCCI since 2020.
What is the rule? According to the Constitution of BCCI, any official has to step down after the age of 70 years. In such a situation, former Team India player Roger Binny was disqualified to continue in the post.
Roger Binny, the most successful bowler in 1983 World Cup, Was part of the Indian cricket team in 1983. He played an important role in the team. Binny became the highest wicket Taker in the World Cup, the highest wicket -taking player. Binny took 18 wickets in the tournament.
From 1979 to 1987, Binny played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs for India. Test career took 47 wickets, while ODI career has taken 77 wickets.
