The Bangladesh team can play Pakistan in the Asia Cup hockey tournament starting on August 29. This tournament is going to be held in Rajgir, Bihar. A senior official of Hockey India told PTI- ‘If Pakistan does not confirm its participation in the next 2 days, it can be replaced by Bangladesh.’
According to the report, the organizers have approached Bangladesh in place of Pakistan, but Hockey India says the situation will be cleared in the next 48 hours. A month ago, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) refused to come to India citing security reasons. However, the Government of India said that it would give visas to Pakistani players.
Hockey India official said-
The Government of India has already spoken about giving visas, but if they (Pakistani players) do not come, then it is not our problem. Bangladesh has been invited in the event of Pakistan not coming, but we have to wait two more days.
The officer further said-
Neither Pakistan nor Bangladesh have given us any official confirmation so far, but Bangladesh is more likely to land instead of Pakistan.
The Asia Cup winning team will qualify for the World Cup. Which will be played in Belgium and Netherlands in 2026.
PHF said- what is the guarantee of the safety of our players
The PHF chief also questioned what is the guarantee of his team’s safety in India. We have asked them to tell us how the safety of our players will be ensured and how they will be able to pay attention to the tournament.
However, the Government of Pakistan has not yet issued any official statement on the issue. Recently, a senior government official had said that the team would not travel to India.
