Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has started the application process for admission to the PhD program for the academic year 2024-25. Entrance to PhD programs in JNU will be done through NET (UGC-CSIR), JRF or GATE. Candidates can apply by visiting the official website jnu.ac.in. The last date for registration is 2 December.
Important Dates:
- Last date to apply: December 2, 2024
- Correction Window: December 3-4, 2024
- Invitation for oral examination for students: December 12, 2024 (tentative)
- Oral Examination: December 12 to 16, 2024
- First Merit List: December 30, 2024
Application Fee:
- PhD application fee for School of Engineering: Rs 20,545
- PhD application fee for other programs: Rs 325
- Payment Method: Online
Documents required for oral examination:
- Two references, one of which must be from a former teacher of the candidate.
- Detailed list of subjects and papers completed by the candidate.
- If available, a copy of at least one published paper which reflects the candidate’s aptitude and intellectual interests.
- Copy of a brief letter, which contains information about the candidate’s career objectives and expertise in research.
- A research proposal, which will be submitted for an oral examination.
- Self-attested printout of NET (UGC/CSIR/GATE) scorecard.
- Self-attested valid JRF certificate with validity dates of fellowship for those applying under JRF category.
- For the PhD programme, foreign candidates must submit a Statement of Purpose (SOP).

- Upload the scanned copy of signature and photograph.
- Submit the application after online payment.
From this year, JNU announced changes in the selection process for admission to its PhD programmes. From this year onwards, under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, admission in PhD will be available on the basis of NET score. Before this, JNU has been conducting its own entrance exam for PhD entrance.
