Applications for Nursery, Kindon Garden (KG) and free seats in the first class in private schools in Delhi have started from 3 February. Parents of children seeking admission under the Economic Vicar Section i.e. EWS, DG and Children with Special Needs i.e. CWSN category can submit their online forms by February 19, 2025.

Admission will be available from lucky draw

Admission will be given through lucky draw on completion of eligibility criterion. This lucky draw for EWS candidates will be computerized for the first time.

The online draw will be on March 3, 2025, after which the seats will be allotted. The new academic session will start from 1 April. Lucky draws are being held first this year, so that children getting admission through EWS category can start their studies with students selected for general/open seats.

EWS admission form will be free

These admissions are part of the Right to Education (RTE) Act’s Free School Admission Scheme, so there is no fee to apply. Parents can see the EWS notification issued for 2025-26 before applying.

In the admission notification, Delhi Directorate (DOE) said that any donation related to admission is a punishable offense. If this happens, schools may have to pay ten times more fine than donation.

EWS Admission Edge Limit

  • Pre-school/nursery admission: 3 to 5 years
  • Pre-Primary/KG Admission: 4 to 6 years

Class 1 Admission

  • EWS: 5 to 7 years (31 March, till 2022) for children with special categories
  • Nursery: 3 to 7 years
  • Kg: 4 to 8 years
  • Class 1: 5 to 9 years

Income Criteria for EWS

Annual income for EWS Eligibility should be less than Rs 5 lakh. Apart from private schools, private primary schools recognized by MCD and NDMC will also participate in lottery process.

Parents can apply online for free seats in nursery, KG and class 1 under EWS/DG/CWSN category in private schools in Delhi.

The first merit list of the un-registration category came on 17 January

The first merit list for admission in Delhi School (pre-school/nursery/pre-primary/kg/class 1) was released on 17 January. The school will be allotted on the basis of merit list and waiting list numbers.

Second list will be released in February

The second list of students selected for nursery admission will be released on February 2025.

After the first merit list

  • Date of Solving Queries of Parents: 18 to 27 January

More than 1,700 schools include

About 1,741 private schools are participating in the Delhi Nursery Admission Process. According to a media report, Prateek Gupta, Principal of Rohini’s Sovereign School, said in December, “This year we got more than 2 thousand registrations for nursery admission, which is more than the registration held last year.

According to Venkateswara School Principal Manisha Sharma, “This year we have received around 3,600 nursery registrations, which are much higher than in previous years.”

Admission point system

A 100 point system is adopted for nursery admission, in which points are given according to different criteria.

  • More marks of school from home are given.
  • 50 marks are given when the child is home within a radius of 6 km from the school.
  • 40 marks are given when the child is home within 6 to 8 km radius.
  • 30 marks are given when the child is home within 8 to 15 km radius.
