Jay Shah will be the 5th Indian Chief of ICC.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah has taken over the post of ICC Chairman. His tenure has started today from 1st December. 35-year-old Jay Shah, who replaced Greg Barclay, has become the youngest chairman of ICC.

In the ICC statement, Jay Shah said, “Thank you to everyone for electing me as ICC Chairman. I will continue to work to grow cricket globally. At present, it is important to promote multiple formats of cricket. I am committed to bringing new technology into the game.” I will try and also take events like the World Cup to the global market.”

Shah further said, “Cricket’s inclusion in the Olympics in 2028 is a big achievement. We will give it global recognition through the Olympics and will try to take it to more countries.”

Jay Shah will be the 5th Indian Chief of ICC Before Shah, 4 Indians have held the post of ICC Chief. Jagmohan Dalmiya was the ICC chief from 1997 to 2000, Sharad Pawar from 2010 to 2012, N Srinivasan from 2014 to 2015 and Shashank Manohar from 2015 to 2020. Before 2015, the ICC Chief was called President. Now it came to be called Chairman.

Jai Shah will be the youngest chairman 35 year old Jai Shah will turn 36 on September 22 this year. He will take over as ICC Chairman on December 1 at the age of 36. He will be the 16th Chairman of ICC, before him all the 15 Chairman were above 55 years of age. Before Shah, Percy Son of South Africa became the President in 2006 at the age of 56. Shah, who is 20 years younger than him, will now become the youngest chairman of ICC at the age of 36.

Barclay’s tenure ended on 30 November The tenure of ICC Chairman Greg Barclay of New Zealand ended on 30 November. The ICC had told on August 20 that Barclay would not become chairman for the third consecutive time. He was on this post since 2020. He will leave his post in November.

After this, the last date to file nomination for the post of ICC Chairman was Tuesday, 27 August. Apart from Jai, no candidate filed nomination for the post. Shah is also currently a part of the ICC’s finance and commerce sub-committee.
