1. Gujarati handicraft ‘Gharchola’ gets GI tag: On November 29, Gujarat’s cultural handicraft heritage ‘Gharchola’ received GI tag from the Government of India. GI tag i.e. Geographical Indication is given to products specific to a region. This is the 23rd GI tag given to Gujarat in the handicraft sector. Apart from this, Gujarat has so far received only 4 tags in other sectors.
‘Gharchola Handicrafts’ of Gujarat was awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) tag by Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh during the ‘GI & Beyond – From Heritage to Development’ program organized in New Delhi.
- Gharchola means ‘clothes worn at home.’ Here the house is actually considered to be the new home of the bride, while the chola is the clothes wearing which she enters that house.
- Gharchola saree is a very special part of Gujarati weddings. It is made from cotton or silk.
- Zari work is done on it and shapes of peacock, lotus, flowers and leaves are made.
- The making of Gharchola started from Khambhat district of Gujarat.
- This saree is identified by its grid pattern.
- GI-tag of products is registered in the country under the ‘Geographical Indication of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act 1999.
- Registration of GI-tag is for 10 years. After this it can be renewed.

2. Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the 59th All India Conference of DGP-IG: Amit Shah inaugurated the 59th All India Conference of Directors General of Police (DGP) and Inspector General of Police (IG) from across the country on November 29, 2024. The three-day conference is being held in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, from November 29 to December 1, 2024. PM Modi will participate in it on 30 November and 1 December 2024.
Amit Shah awarded the best performing police stations in Odisha during the conference.
- For the first time, Odisha is hosting the DGP-IG conference.
- The 58th DGP-IG conference was held on 6 and 7 January 2024 in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
- This conference acts as a platform to discuss the internal security of the country.
- The conference discusses issues related to challenges like terrorism, coastal security, counter-terrorism strategies, cyber crimes and artificial intelligences.
- On the last day of the conference, PM Modi will give the President’s Police Award for distinguished service to the best police officers.
- This conference has so far been held in Guwahati (Assam), Rann of Kutch (Gujarat), Hyderabad (Telangana), Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh), Statue of Unity (Gujarat), Pune (Maharashtra), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), New Delhi and Jaipur. (Rajasthan).

Masato Kanda became the 11th President of Asian Development Bank: The Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has elected Masato Kanda of Japan as the 11th President of the bank on November 28, 2024. He is known as ‘Mr Yen’. He replaces current president Masatsugu Asakawa, who is leaving his post on February 23, 2025.
59-year-old Masato Kanda currently serves as a special advisor to the Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Japan.
- Masato Kanda will assume office on February 24, 2025.
- The term of the ADB President is 5 years and he can be re-elected.
- Masato Kanda will remain as ADB President until November 23, 2026.
- ADB’s Board of Governors elects the President of ADB. The finance ministers of member countries represent the country on the ADB Board.
- Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman represents India on the Board of Governors of ADB and Ajay Seth is the Alternate Governor.
- Member countries vote to elect the President and the value of each member country’s vote is proportional to its equity share in the ADB.
- Japan and the United States are ADB’s largest shareholders, with an equity stake of 15.6%.
- China is the third largest shareholder with 6.4% and India is the fourth largest shareholder with 6.3% shares.
- Thus, the value of Japan’s vote would be 15.6%, while the value of India’s vote would be 6.3%.
- For the post of President of ADB, the candidate has to get majority.
- Due to mutual understanding between Western countries, a Japanese has been elected President of ADB since its establishment in 1966.
- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is one of the multilateral development banks established around the world.
- This bank gives loans to member countries for development and helps in poverty alleviation.
- ADB has 69 member countries.
- Its headquarters is in ‘Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila, Philippines’.

4. ‘Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav 2024’ will be organized in New Delhi: The Government of India has decided to organize ‘Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav’ at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi from December 6 to 8, 2024. This was announced by Union North Eastern Region Development Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on November 29. This festival will focus on eight north-eastern states of India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav on 6 December 2024.
- Chief Ministers of all North Eastern states will also be present on the occasion and a commemorative postage stamp will be released during the inauguration ceremony.
- Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura are the 8 states of the North-East.
- Earlier the North-Eastern region consisted of 7 states and were called Seven Sisters.
- Sikkim became a member of the North-Eastern Council in 2002 and the term Seven Sisters ceased to be used to refer to the North-Eastern states.
- The name Ashtalakshmi is named after the eight incarnations of Goddess Lakshmi.
- The festival aims to bridge the cultural and economic gap between Northeast India and the rest of the country.
- There will be events like cultural programs, live handicrafts shows, technical sessions and investments.
- Rural Haat Bazaar will also be set up in it, which will include artworks of 320 farmers and artisans of the North-East.

5. BCCI launches new ODI jersey of Team India: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) launched the new ODI jersey of Team India on 29 November. This jersey is made by the famous German sportswear company Adidas.
BCCI has shared the video of the new jersey on X and Instagram.
- Team India’s previous jersey was completely blue and had three Adidas stripes on the shoulders.
- This time the three Adidas stripes on the shoulder have been given the shade of the tricolor.
- The blue color of this jersey is slightly lighter than the previous jersey but it has been given a darker color on both the sides.
- The women’s team will wear the new jersey for the first time against West Indies. West Indies team will visit India in December. A series of 3 ODI and 3 T-20 matches will be played between India and West Indies.
- At the same time, the Indian men’s team will first be seen in this jersey against England in January 2025. Initially, a series of 3 T-20 matches will be played between India and England.
- After this, Team India will also be seen in this jersey in the Champions Trophy to be held in February-March.
- The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has signed a contract with Adidas till 2028.
- During the Cricket World Cup from 1992 to 1999, the jerseys of the Indian cricket team were made by Asics.
- After this, the cricket team had no sponsor till 2005.
- In December 2005, Nike signed a five-year contract.
- After this, Nike signed contracts in 2011 and 2016 also. In 2020, Nike terminated his contract.

TODAY’S HISTORY
History of 30 November: On this day in 1872, the first international football match was played. The first international match was played between the teams of England and Scotland at the Scotland Cricket Ground. In this, Scotland wore blue and England wore white jersey. More than 4 thousand spectators had reached the stadium to watch this match. There was no result of this match. Neither team could score a goal in the 90-minute match and the match was drawn. After this match was drawn, there was a demand that there should be a re-match between the two teams, so that some result could be achieved.
