Lionel Messi and Jordy Alba.
Inter Miami’s star player Lionel Messi and Jordy Alba have been banned by Major League Soccer (MLS) for one match each.
This decision was taken due to both the players not participating in this year’s MLS all-star game. Due to this, both players will not be able to play against FC Cincinnati in Inter Miami’s next league match. George Mass, owner of Inter Miami, described the decision as “rigid” and inappropriate.
MLS statement MLS issued a statement on Friday saying that according to the league rules, any player who does not participate in the all-star game without prior acceptance is considered unqualified to play in his club’s next competition.
What is MLS all-star game? Messi and Alba were selected by fans for the all-star game, in which the MLS team faced Mexico’s Leiga MX team. Messi decided to rest due to the busy schedule, while Alba was suffering from an old injury. Because of this, Inter Miami decided not to take both the players in this match. In this game, the MLS All-Star team won 3–1. Last year too, Messi did not participate in the all-star game due to injury.

Jordy Alba and Lionel Messi also practiced with the team on Friday.
MLS Commissioner’s statement MLS Commissioner Don Garber said, “Lionel Messi has a deep attachment to this league. He has hardly contributed as much as he has contributed to the Major League soccer. I respect his commitment to his inter Miami. However, our long-run rule of participation in the all-star game is that our long-run rule, which was necessary to apply. It was a difficult decision.” He further said that the League would review this rule and consider improving it in future with the players.
Inter Miami owner’s displeasure George Mass, owner of Inter Miami, expressed displeasure over this suspension and rule. He said that just 48 hours after the all-star game, six MLS matches were played on Friday night, which is not appropriate for the players. The month described it as an inappropriate dealings with the players.
Inter miami status Inter Miami is currently fifth in the Eastern Conference Table and will host FC Cincinnati, topped at the Chess Stadium in Fort Lauderdel on Saturday night.
