Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has applied to trademark ‘Captain Cool’. If they get trademark rights of this word, no person or institution will be able to use the word Captain Cool.
On June 5, Dhoni submitted an online application through the Trademark Registry Portal. They want special rights to use ‘Captain Cool’ for training, coaching and training centers.
The application of the former Indian captain initially faced a hindrance under Section 11 (1) of the Trade Marx Act. Because, a trademark was already registered with this name. In such a situation, people could be confused with the new trade mark. Dhoni’s lawyers argued that the name ‘Captain Cool’ has been associated with Dhoni for the last several years. It has been adopted by the public, media and fans on a large scale.
