- Markram BECAME ‘Man of the Match’ in the World Test Championship

South Africa defeated the ICC World Test Championship Trophy on 14 June to defeat defending champion Australia. Aden Markram (136 runs), who was the hero of the victory of this championship, was adjudged Man of the Match.
With this victory, the South African cricket team finally removed the tag of ‘World Champion’ by removing the stain of ‘Choks’.
The final match of the World Test Championship was played on ‘Home of Cricket’ i.e. ‘Lord’s Cricket Ground’.
South Africa has won an ICC tournament after 27 years. Earlier, the team won the Champions Trophy in 1998.

Aden Markram’s early education took place in Pretoria, South Africa. ‘Pretoria Boys High School’ is a prestigious institution. It was from here that Ellon Musk did schooling.
This school has also been a stronghold of South African cricketers. Legendary South African cricketers like Chris Morris, Glenn Hall, Eddie Barlo got initial training in this school. Markram was also active in studies as well as cricket and football. Later he chose cricket as his full time career.
Player of the Tournament in the Under 19 World Cup in 2014
Markram joined South Africa’s Under-19 cricket team in 2012. In the 2012-13 season, he got the responsibility of leadership of the World Cup due to good performance in domestic and International Under-19 matches. He captained South Africa in the ICC Under-19 World Cup tournament held in the United Arab Emirates in 2014.
South Africa won the Under-19 World Cup for the first time by defeating Pakistan in the final. Markram scored 370 runs in 6 matches in this tournament, including two centuries and a half -century. He was the top run-scorer of South Africa.
Markram was adjudged ‘Player of the Tournament’ for his best performance in the 2014 Under-19 World Cup.
This tournament became the most important stage of Markram’s early career.
‘Domestic Newcomer of the Year’ became in 2017
After the Under-19 World Cup, Markram made his debut in South Africa’s First Class Cricket (Domestic) for Northern in 2014. He impressed his technical batting and off-spin bowling. In the 2014-15 and 2015-16 season, he performed well for Northern and Titans.
In 2017, Markram was adjudged ‘Domestic Newcomer of the Year’ by Cricket South Africa due to good performance in domestic cricket.
The performance attracted the attention of national selectors and got a place in the international team.

In 2015, Aidan Markram joined the Titans team. At that time, Mark became the head coach of the Boucher team. Since then, Boucher became the guide of Markram’s career.
International Career:
- Test Debut: Debut against Bangladesh on 28 September 2017. He scored 97 runs in his first Test and played a century of 143 runs in the second Test. He became the first South African player to score two centuries in his first three Tests.
- ODI Debut: On October 22, 2017, against Bangladesh, where he scored 66 runs and also took 2 wickets.
- T20 Debut: On March 22, 2019 against Sri Lanka, in which he scored just 3 runs.
- In 2023, he scored the fastest century in the Men’s Cricket World Cup against Sri Lanka (in 49 balls). However, this record was later broken by Glenn Maxwell.
Second youngest ODI captain after Graeme Smith
In February 2018, South African captain Faf du Plessis was dropped from the remaining five ODIs and T20 International Series against India due to a finger injury. In his absence, Aidan Markram was made the captain of South Africa’s ODI team.
Markram is the second youngest player to captain South Africa’s ODI team
Markram became the second youngest player to captain the ODI team of South Africa at the age of 23 years and 123 days. This feat was achieved by Graeme Smith only at the young age from him.
