Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has won the title of IPL for the first time. The team defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 6 runs in the final on Tuesday. Krunal Pandya became the Player of the Final in this match. He took 2 wickets for 17 runs which included Josh English and Prabhasimran Singh’s important wickets.
Left studies for cricket
Krunal was born on 24 March 1991 in Choriyasi village of Surat, Gujarat. His father Himanshu Pandya used to do business and mother Nalini Pandya was a housewife.
Krunal used to study at MK High School in Vadodara but stopped going to school before completing her studies. Krunal actually wanted to do the entire focus on cricket and he did not like any distraction in it.
Krunal made her first class debut in 2016. The 2016-17 Ranji Trophy tournament was played by Vadodara. In the 2016 IPL, he was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 2 crore. He was signed by Mumbai Indians in the 2018 IPL auction.
In IPL 2022, Krunal was bought by Lucknow Super Giant for Rs 8.25 crore. In the 2025 IPL auction, RCB included Krunal in the team for Rs 5.75 crore.
Krunal is the first player to win the Player of the Match twice in the final match in the history of IPL. He has also won this title in the final of 2017 before IPL 2025.
Coach used to say ‘Maggi Brothers’
The economic condition of the Pandya family was not good in the early days. The family lived in Surat and the father used to work as finance of vehicles here, but shortly after, the business drowned and the family settled in Vadodara.
In Vadodara, Krunal joined Kiran More’s Cricket Academy with younger brother Hardik Pandya. Here Kiran More used to call these two brothers ‘Maggi Brothers’. In fact, both brothers always used to eat Maggi when they were hungry amidst long practice, so they got this name in the academy.
Debut in international cricket in 2018
In 2018, Krunal Pandya was selected for the tournament against West Indies and Australia in India’s T20 International team. On 18 November, he played his first international match against the West Indies. During this, Krunal took 1 wicket and scored 21 runs in 9 balls.
In March 2021, Krunal was included in India’s One Day International Team. He got a place in the team for the tournament against England.
On 23 March 2021, he made his ODI debut against England. In this match, Krunal scored 58 runs in 26 balls. This fifty was the fastest for a cricketer who debuted in ODI match.
