Sri Lankan all -rounder Angelo Mathews has retired from Test cricket. He announced his retirement on social media on Friday. Mathews wrote- ‘The first Test against Bangladesh in June will be the last Test of my career, which will be played in Gaul from 17 to 21 June. If my country needs me, I will be available for white-ball selection. ‘ Mathews has not been selected in Sri Lanka’s white-ball team for almost a year.
37 -year -old Mathews made his Test debut in 2009 and played 118 Tests. In his Test career nearly 16 years long, Mathews has performed well not only with the bat, but also his captaincy.

I gave my everything to cricket- Mathews Matthews wrote on X, ‘Now the time has come for me to say goodbye to the most favorite player of cricket, International Test cricket. Playing cricket for Sri Lanka for the last 17 years has been the biggest respect and pride of my life. When a player wears a national team jersey, the country and the spirit of service cannot be compared to anything. I have given everything to cricket and in return, cricket also gave me a lot, I made me the person I am today.
He further wrote, ‘I want to thank thousands of those thousands of Sri Lankan cricket fans who always remained with me in the ups and downs of my career. Also, I want to thank Sri Lanka cricket and all coaches. A chapter is ending, but my love for the game will remain forever. ‘
Scored 16 Test centuries Angelo Mathews made his Test debut against Pakistan in July 2009 in Gaul. 37 -year -old Mathews has so far scored 8167 runs in 118 Tests at an average of 44.62, including 16 centuries and 45 half -centuries. Mathews also took 33 wickets in Tests.
Captured in 34 matches Mathews captained Sri Lanka in 34 Tests, in which he won the team in 13 matches. Sri Lanka suffered defeat in 15 matches. 6 Test matches were left on draw.
