NATIONAL
1. PM Modi reached Brazil to attend G20 meeting: The 19th G20 Summit is starting in Brazil today i.e. from 18th November. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Rio de Janeiro this morning to participate in it. The summit will run for two days on 18th and 19th November.
Prime Minister Modi, who reached Rio de Janeiro, was welcomed with Vedic chanting.
- The G20 comprises 19 countries and 2 organizations (the European Union and the African Union).
- G20 is called Group of Twenty.
- In 1999, when the economic crisis occurred in Asia, the finance ministers and central bank governors of various countries together thought of creating a forum where global economic and financial issues could be discussed.
- Then in 2007, when the threat of economic recession loomed over the entire world, the level of G20 was further raised. It was raised from the level of Finance Ministers to the level of Head of State. That means now heads of state of all countries will participate in this meeting.
- In this way, the first meeting of G20 was held in Washington, America in 2008. A total of 18 meetings have been held so far.
- Brazil is going to host its 19th meeting.
- Last time the G20 summit was organized in India.
- After the successful completion of the G20 summit chaired by India, PM Modi handed over its chairmanship to Brazilian President Lula da Silva.
2. Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla of Chhattisgarh notified as the 56th tiger reserve of the country: On November 18, the Central Government notified Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla of Chhattisgarh as the 56th tiger reserve of the country. Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve is spread over 2,829 square kilometers.
Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav informed about this decision on social media.
- Till now there were three tiger reserves in the state – Indravati (Bijapur), Udanti-Sitanadi (Gariaband) and Achanakmar (Mungeli).
- It is named after Satnami reformer Guru Ghasidas.
- It is present in Korea district of Chhattisgarh.
- The topography of the park is undulating and it falls under the tropical climate zone.

3. PM Modi received Nigeria’s second highest national award: Nigeria has honored Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the second highest national honour, ‘The Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger’. He is the second foreign person to receive this honour. Before him, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth was given this honor in 1969.

- This is the 17th international award to be received by PM Modi.
- Earlier on November 14, the Caribbean country Dominica had announced to give Modi the highest national award – ‘Dominica Award of Honor’.
- PM Modi had a meeting with the Nigerian President at Rashtrapati Bhavan during his two-day visit to Nigeria. There was discussion between the two on further strengthening bilateral relations.
- Nigeria is one of the important countries of Africa due to its huge reserves of oil and gas. This country fulfills the energy needs of India.
- Indian investment in Africa has been growing steadily, especially in sectors such as energy, mining, pharmaceuticals and information technology.
- Nigeria is an important member of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) and the Organization of Oil Producing Countries (OPEC). Both these organizations are important for India’s diplomacy and economic policy.

4. Testing of indigenous hypersonic missile successful: Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO) successfully tested ‘Long Range Hypersonic Missile’ late on the night of 16 November. The missile was launched from APJ Abdul Kalam Azad Island near the coast of Odisha through a glided vehicle. After tracking the flight trajectory of the missile, the testing was considered successful.
The range of this long-range hypersonic missile is more than 1,500 kilometers.
- With this missile, the enemy can be attacked from all three places: air, water and land.
- After launch, its speed can reach 6,200 kilometers per hour, which is 5 times more than the speed of sound.
- The most special thing about hypersonic missiles is that due to their high speed, low trajectory i.e. flying at low altitude, it is almost impossible to detect them by any radar in the world including America. For this reason, no missile defense system in the world can kill them.
- Hypersonic missiles are capable of carrying several tons of nuclear warheads. These missiles can carry 480 kg of nuclear warheads or conventional weapons. This missile is considered important for countries possessing nuclear weapons.
- Hypersonic missiles are more lethal than subsonic cruise missiles in destroying underground weapons warehouses. Due to their extremely high speed, hypersonic missiles are more destructive.
- Hypersonic missiles are adept in maneuverable technology i.e. changing the path in the air. With this, they can also target targets that are changing location. Because of this ability it is difficult to escape from them.
- DRDO had successfully test-fired a Hypersonic Technology Demonstrated Vehicle (HSTDV) in 2020.
- India is moving towards developing its own hypersonic cruise missile using HSTDV.

5. Kailash Gehlot resigned from the post and party: Delhi Government’s Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot has resigned from the post and party. Kailash Gehlot had announced his resignation by writing a letter to AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on the morning of 17 November. 24 hours later, Kailash Gehlot joined BJP on Monday, 18 November.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva gave him membership of Bharatiya Janata Party. During this, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was present.
- Kailash Gehlot joined Aam Aadmi Party in 2015. He became a cabinet minister in 2017.
- Kailash Gehlot, a lawyer by profession, fought many big cases in the Supreme Court and High Court for 10 years before joining politics.

6. ‘Shehzad Mohammad Khan’, who was the press secretary of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, passed away: On November 17, ‘Shehzad Mohammad Khan’, a senior Indian Information Service officer and press secretary of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, died in New Delhi. He was 67 years old. He breathed his last in a private hospital in New Delhi.
Shahzad Mohammad Khan was a 1982 batch IAS officer.
- Khan also served as the Director General of Doordarshan News.
- Worked with Press Information Bureau, Registrar and Newspapers as well as various media units of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
- He was also the CBI spokesperson from 1989 to 2002. Khan was the face of the agency during his 13-year tenure.
- Shahzad Mohammad Khan was the Press Secretary to former President APJ Abdul Kalam (2002 to 2007) and also wrote a book titled “The People’s President” narrating his experiences of working with Dr. Kalam.
- Khan also served as the director of Jamia Hamdard Residential Coaching Academy.
- Khan was also a member of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Court and was appointed by the President of India as its representative on the Executive Council of AMU.
