NATIONAL
1. PM Modi unveiled development projects worth Rs 6,640 crore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 15 unveiled development projects worth Rs 6,640 crore in Bihar’s Jamui district. The PM had reached Jamui to participate in a function organized on the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, which is celebrated as ‘Tribal Pride Day’.
On the occasion, PM Modi also released a commemorative coin and postage stamp in Munda’s honour.
- PM Modi also virtually participated in the ‘Griha Pravesh’ of 11,000 houses built for tribal families under the Pradhan Mantri Tribal Justice Maha Abhiyan (PM-Janman).
- He launched 23 Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) under PM-Janman for tribal areas and 30 additional MMUs under Dharti Aaba Tribal Village Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA).
- He inaugurated 10 Eklavya Model Residential Schools and 300 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras, aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and improving livelihoods.
- He inaugurated 2 Tribal Freedom Fighters Museums in Chhindwara and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.
- Along with this he also inaugurated 2 Tribal Research Institutes in Srinagar and Gangtok to preserve the history of tribal communities.
- The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of 500 kilometers of new roads and 100 multi-purpose centres, which will serve as community centers in tribal areas.
- He also laid the foundation stone of 25,000 new houses under PM-Janman and 1.16 lakh houses under DAJGUA as well as 370 hostels for tribal students.
- Modi government had announced to celebrate Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary as Tribal Pride Day in 2021.
- Birsa Munda was born in 1875 in Ulihatu in Khunti, a tribal area of undivided Bihar.
- He mobilized the tribals against British colonial rule and conversion activities.
2. Hyundai Motors appoints ‘Jose Munoz’ as new CEO: On November 15, Hyundai Motors appointed America’s current Global Chief Operating Officer ‘Jose Munoz’ as its CEO. With this, Munoz has become the first foreigner to lead a South Korean automaker.
Munoz joined Hyundai in 2019 as Global Chief Operating Officer with North and South American operational responsibility.
- Prior to this, he worked at Nissan Motors for 15 years, which also included his tenure as Chairman of the China Unit.
- He will replace Jaehoon Chang.
- This change will be effective from January 1, 2025.
- Hyundai Motors is a South Korean multinational automotive manufacturer headquartered in Seoul, South Korea.
- Hyundai Motors was established in 1967.
- Hyundai vehicles are sold through 5,000 dealerships and showrooms in 193 countries.
- Chung Ju-yung founded Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company in 1947.
- Hyundai Motor Company was founded 20 years later in 1967, and the company’s first model, the Cortina, was released in 1968 in collaboration with Ford Motor Company.
- The first electric car developed by Hyundai was the Sonata Electric in 1991.
International
3. President Dissanayake’s alliance won in the Sri Lankan parliamentary elections: President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s coalition ‘National People’s Power (NPP)’ has won the Sri Lankan parliamentary elections on 15 November. Till now the results of all the seats have been declared. NPP has won 141 seats out of 196 seats to be decided on the basis of districts.
According to the results, NPP has got 61% i.e. 68 lakh votes.
- The main opposition SJB party is in second place with 18% votes and 35 seats.
- Apart from this, the National Democratic Front, supported by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, got only 5% votes and 3 seats.
- At the same time, the Sri Lanka People’s Front (SLPP) party of the Rajapaksa family, which dominates Sri Lankan politics, has reached fifth place with 2 seats.
- The NPP also won in the Tamil district of Jaffna. Here NPP has won 3 out of 6 seats.

4. India successfully tests Pinak rocket launcher: India has successfully tested ‘Pinaka Weapon System’ on 14 November. This test was done by Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). During testing, its firepower, accuracy and power to attack multiple targets simultaneously were tested.
Pinak Rocket Launcher System is named after ‘Pinak’, the bow of Lord Shiva.
- It has been developed by DRDO’s Pune-based Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE).
- Its battery consists of six launch vehicles.
- It has loader systems, radar and network based systems and links with a command post.
- Currently there are 2 versions. The first is Mark-I, which has a range of 40 kilometers and the second is Mark-II, which has a range of 75 kilometers.
- There are plans to increase its range to 120-300 kilometers.
- The Pinak Rocket Launcher System consists of 12 214 mm rockets.
- The speed of Pinak rockets makes it the most dangerous. Its speed is 5,757 kilometers per hour, which means it attacks at a speed of 1.61 kilometers in one second.
- Earlier in the year 2023, 24 tests were conducted.
- This system has been completely made in the country itself.
- This system can fire 12 rockets in just 44 seconds, i.e. one rocket every 4 seconds.
- It was tested at three different places. A total of 24 rockets were fired from two launchers. All these rockets managed to hit their targets successfully.
- Guided Pinaka system has been prepared by DRDO scientists. Many companies also contributed in making it, like Munitions India Limited and Tata Advanced Systems.
- This system is now completely ready to join the army.
STATE IN NEWS
5. AFSPA re-imposed in 6 areas of Manipur: Armed Forces Special Protection Act (AFSPA) has been re-imposed in 6 police stations of 5 districts of Manipur. It will remain effective till 31 March 2025. The Home Ministry issued its order on Thursday, November 14.
The Home Ministry has taken the decision due to the deteriorating security situation in these 6 areas.
- With the implementation of AFSPA, the army and paramilitary forces can detain anyone for questioning at any time in these areas.
- The order covers Sekmai and Lamsang police stations of Imphal West district, Lamlai of Imphal East district, Jiribam of Jiribam district, Leimakhong of Kangpokpi and Moirang police station of Bishnupur district.
- AFSPA is implemented only in disturbed areas.
- At these places, security forces can arrest anyone without warrant. In many cases force can also be used.
- This law was passed on September 11, 1958 for the convenience of the security forces in the North-East.
- Due to increase in terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir in 1989, AFSPA was implemented here also in 1990.
- The central government also decides which areas will be disturbed.

6. Reliance-Disney merger completed: Disney Star India and Reliance’s Viacom-18 have now become one. This also includes Disney Hotstar and Jio Cinema. Both these companies announced this on Thursday, November 14. After this merger, it has become the largest entertainment network in the country.
Disney-Reliance Entertainment now has 75 crore viewers with 2 over the top i.e., OTT and 120 channels.
- This deal has been done for Rs 70,352 crore.
- Reliance will hold 63.16% stake and Disney will hold 36.84% stake in the company formed after the merger.
- The chairperson of this new company will be Nita Ambani.
- At the same time, the vice chairperson will be Uday Shankar, who will give strategic guidance to the company.
- The merger process was going on for the last one year.
- This joint venture will be led by three CEOs and all three will handle the responsibilities of different verticals.
- Kevin Vaz will head the entertainment organization. Kiran Mani will take charge of the digital organization. Whereas, Sanjog Gupta will lead the sports organization.
- Reliance is one of the largest private sector companies in India and has a market cap of Rs 17,15,498.91 crore.
- Reliance currently operates in hydrocarbon exploration and production, petroleum refining and marketing, petrochemicals, advanced materials and composites, renewable energy (solar and hydrogen), digital services and retail sectors.

History of 15 November: On this day in 1949, Nathuram Godse and Narayan Apte were hanged in Ambala Central Jail complex. Immediately after the death of both of them, their last rites were performed in the jail premises itself. The administration immersed the ashes in the Ghaggar river with great care. 9 accused were made in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. He was tried for 8 months in the trial court built in the Red Fort. Godse and Apte were hanged after being found guilty in the same case. Only one person was acquitted. His name was Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
