Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived on a two -day Mauritius tour on Tuesday. During this, PM Modi tweeted on social media platform X in Bhojpuri language.

About 190 years ago, a ship named Atlas from India reached Mauritius on 2 November 1834 with Indian laborers. They were called Girmatia laborers i.e. laborers brought on the basis of agreement. The purpose of bringing them was to develop Mauritius as an agricultural country.

The British took many laborers from India to Mauritius between 1834 and 1924. These laborers were up to 80% from Bihar, who used to use Bhojpuri language mainly. These laborers settled in Mauritius and Bhojpuri language also settled there.

During the British period, many laborers of UP-Bihar were sent to work in Caribbean countries. These laborers used to work in sugarcane fields where many African slaves already worked. Two different culture and language people met.

Indian women used to sing songs with musical instruments like Dholak, Hormonians in their homes in the evening. The Africans do not understand that language, but they liked them all. Gradually, both communities began to dissolve and thus fusion of Bhojpuri songs with Caribbean Music.

It got chutney music name. This music is quite popular in countries such as Mauritius, Trinidard and Tobago, Guyana, Surinam and Jamaica.

It is said that in the mid -period, some Bhojwanshi Raja from Bhojpur in Madhya Pradesh went to Bihar and went there and settled a village named Bhojpur. It was from here that Bhojpuri language originated and the language was named after the village. Currently, Bhojpur is a big pargana in Buxar in Ara district.
