1. PM Modi leaves for Nigeria tour: Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Nigeria tour on 16 November. He is visiting Nigeria for the first time at the invitation of President Ahmed Tinubu. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in 17 years. Before Modi, in 2007, the then PM Dr. Manmohan Singh had visited Nigeria.
Prime Minister leaves for Nigeria on a 2-day visit. After this he will also go to Brazil and Guyana.

2. Trump appointed 27-year-old Caroline Levitt as press secretary: America’s newly elected President Donald Trump is preparing his team for his second term. On November 16, he selected 27-year-old Caroline Leavitt for the post of White House Press Secretary. Caroline will be the youngest secretary to hold this post. Earlier in 1969, President Richard Nixon had appointed 29 year old Ronald Zeigler as Press Secretary.
Caroline was also the National Press Secretary of Trump’s campaign in the recent presidential election.

- Caroline also held the post of Assistant Press Secretary during Trump’s previous term (2017-21).

- Caroline ran for House of Representatives (lower house of the US Parliament) from New Hampshire in 2022. However, he lost to Chris Pappas of the Democratic Party in the general election.

3. Mike Tyson entered the boxing ring after 19 years: On November 16, the world’s all-time great boxer Mike Tyson entered the ring after 19 years. He faced 27 year old American boxer Jack Paul, who was 31 years his junior. YouTuber turned professional boxer Jack won the match 78-74.
The fight between Tyson and Jake Paul took place on Saturday 16 November at AT&T Stadium in Texas (USA).
- Tyson was ahead in the first two rounds of the 8-round heavyweight bout, but lagged behind in the remaining six rounds.
- Mike Tyson got 20 million dollars (about Rs 169 crore) from this match.
- Whereas, his rival Jack Paul got 40 million dollars (about Rs 338 crore).
- This was the seventh defeat in Mike Tyson’s professional boxing career.
- Before this, Tyson played his last professional match in the year 2005 against Kevin McBride, in which he also lost.
- Before this match, Mike Tyson had won 50 matches as a professional boxer.
- In 1986, at the age of 20, Tyson broke Trevor Berber’s record to become the world’s youngest heavyweight champion. This record still stands today.
- Tyson won 44 matches through knockout.

4. Sanju Samson became the first cricketer to score 3 T-20 centuries in a calendar year: Indian cricket team opener Sanju Samson made a batting record at New Wanderers in Johannesburg on 15 November. He has become the first batsman in the world to score three centuries in a year in T-20 International. In the fourth T-20 match played between India and South Africa, he scored the third T-20 century of his career by playing a brilliant inning of 109 runs in 56 balls.
Samson scored his third century in the last 5 innings and second century in this series.
- Due to Samson’s century, the Indian team scored 283 runs on the board and India defeated South Africa by 135 runs.
- Many players have scored two T20 centuries in a year, such as Colin Munro, Phil Salt, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma and Tilak Verma. Till now no one had scored three centuries.
- Samson became the second player to score two centuries in the same T20 series.
- England’s Phil Salt was the first player to achieve this feat by scoring two centuries against West Indies in December 2023.
5. ‘Anshul Kamboj’ became the third bowler to take all 10 wickets in an innings in Ranji Trophy: Haryana’s fast bowler ‘Anshul Kamboj’ created history by taking all 10 wickets of Kerala in the Ranji Trophy match on 15 November. Kamboj achieved this feat by dismissing Kerala’s ‘Shaun Roger’. In the first innings, Kamboj took 10 wickets for 49 runs in 30.1 overs.
The Ranji Trophy Elite Group-C match between Haryana and Kerala was played from 13-16 November at the Chaudhary Bansi Lal Stadium in Lahli, Haryana.
- Anshul Kamboj became the third bowler to take all 10 wickets in an innings in Ranji Trophy.
- Bengal fast bowler Premangasu Chatterjee was the first player to take all ten wickets in an innings in Ranji Trophy. He also took all 10 wickets for Assam in an innings in the 1956–57 Ranji season.
- Rajasthan’s Pradeep Sundaram was the second player to take all 10 wickets for Vidarbha in the 1985–86 Ranji Trophy season.
- At the same time, in international cricket, England’s leg spinner ‘Jim Laker’ was the first bowler to take all 10 wickets in an innings of a Test match. He took 10 wickets for 53 runs in the second innings against the Australian team in Manchester, England in 1956.

6. PM Modi inaugurated the first Bodoland Mahotsav: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first Bodoland Mahotsav in New Delhi. This two-day event will run till November 16 at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex of Sports Authority of India (SAI). This is a big event based on language, literature and culture for building the Bodo society.
The theme of the Bodoland Mahotsav is ‘Peace and Harmony for a Prosperous India’.
- It aims to integrate the indigenous Bodo people living in Assam, West Bengal, Nepal and other international border areas of the Northeast.
- It will focus on the culture, language and education of the Bodo community as well as other communities of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
- It also celebrates the significant achievement of reforms and recovery since the signing of the Bodo Peace Accord in 2020.
- In fact, on January 27, 2020, in the presence of the Union Home Minister, a tripartite agreement was signed in the capital Delhi to resolve the decades-old Bodo problem.
- The agreement was also attended by the Government of India, the Government of Assam and representatives of militant groups associated with the Bodoland movement. The agreement included members of Assam’s banned militant organization ‘National Democratic Front of Bodoland’ and other organizations associated with the Bodoland movement.
- This peace agreement not only brought an end to decades of conflict, violence and loss of life in Bodoland, but also became an inspiration for other peace agreements.
- The event will be attended by more than 5 thousand cultural, linguistic and art lovers from Bodoland region, Assam, West Bengal, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, other parts of India along with neighboring states Nepal and Bhutan.

History of 16 November: Today ‘National Press Day’ is celebrated across the country. This day symbolizes the presence of a free and responsible press in India. The first Press Commission had envisioned a Press Council with the objective of protecting the freedom of the press in India and setting standards in journalism.
