Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) can announce their new captain for IPL-2025 in Bengaluru today i.e. on Thursday. RCB needs a new captain after not retaining Faf du Plessis.
Virat Kohli is a strong contender to become a captain. Virat took over the team from 2013 to 2021. Apart from this, in IPL-2023, he also captained three matches.
The franchise has another option for batsman Rajat Patidar. Rajat has been with the team since 2021 and was one of his three retainers before the Mega auction in November. 31 years of Rajat Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy were the captain of their state team Madhya Pradesh in the 2024-25 season.
Du Plessis captained RCB for 3 years Du Plessis captained the team for three years from 2022 to 2024. The franchise did not bid for 40 -year -old du Plessis at the auction and was bought by Delhi Capitals at a base price.
Kohli was the captain of 9 years RCB Virat Kohli was the captain of RCB from 2013 to 2021. Then in 2021 he left the captaincy. After this, in 2022, Faf du Plessis took command of the last three season team. In 2016, RCB traveled to the finals under Virat’s captaincy, in which he lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Overall, Kohli captained 143 matches, out of which 66 matches won and lost 70. In the last three seasons, the team made it to the playoffs in 2022 and 2024 under the captaincy of Faf Duplesi, although in 2023 it missed the playoffs.
Kohli is with RCB since 2008 Kohli was associated with RCB as an unaccounted player before IPL 2008. He has been continuously part of the team since then. RCB never released Kohli in 17 years. He also has the highest number of runs in IPL.
