Virat Kohli was out on the ball going outside the off stump in 8 out of 9 innings on the Australia tour.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering adding a new member to the coaching staff of Team India, especially the batting coach. However, no official announcement has been made yet.
At the same time, BCCI is considering bringing back the Yo-Yo test to improve the fitness of the team. Besides, it can also be made a criterion for selecting players in the team.
Some names are being considered According to Cricbuzz report, the role of the coaching staff was discussed in the review meeting held in Mumbai on January 11. There was talk about adding another batting coach. Some names are being considered, which also include former veteran players of domestic cricket. However, no final decision has been taken yet.
At present, apart from head coach Gautam Gambhir, India’s coaching staff includes Morne Morkel (bowling coach), Abhishek Nair (assistant coach), Ryan ten Doeschate (assistant coach) and T Dilip (fielding coach).
The coaching staff has been severely criticized after India’s Test series defeat on Australia tour. Especially after players like Virat Kohli were out in the same manner, questions were raised on the coaching staff. In the five-match series, Kohli was out on a ball outside the off stump in eight innings. Whereas captain Rohit Sharma could score only 31 runs in the three matches.

BCCI considering bringing back yo-yo test According to a Times of India report, BCCI is considering bringing back the Yo-Yo test to improve the fitness of the team. The yo-yo test was removed to reduce the number of injuries.
What is yo-yo test?
- Yo-yo test is like beep test. This is a running test in which running has to be done between two sets.
- The distance between the two sets is 20 meters. This is approximately equal to the length of a cricket pitch.
- During this, players have to run from one set to another and then come back from the second set to the first set.
- Once this distance is covered a shuttle is complete.
- The test starts from the fifth level. This continues till level 23.
- After each shuttle, the running time keeps decreasing, but the distance does not decrease.
- Indian players have to score 16.5 out of 23 in the Yo-Yo test.
- Former Indian cricket team strength and conditioning coach Shankar Basu introduced the yo-yo test in the national team before India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2017.
