Cylinder has not been filled for two years
Sushila’s father Ratan Meena works as a laborer in Ahmedabad. Earlier mother Shantibai also used to work as a labourer. Now she takes care of the house for her children’s education. Ratan told that in 2017, a small plot was received in the village itself under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana. Could not get the house work completed after the first installment.
Due to wife’s illness, Rs 80,000 received under the scheme was spent. Took a bike. He also has two months’ installment left. Gas stove and LPG connection was provided by the government. The cylinder has not been filled for the last two years. Shanti cooks food on the stove only. Shanti told that after Sushila’s video surfaced, so many guests came on Sunday that the sugar and milk ran out.
The house in which we live is made of thatch and grass. Sushila lives in this house with her parents and two brothers Ravindra and Jitendra. Ratan says that even free electricity is of no use because there is very little light in the village. There is neither TV nor any other facility in the house. All three brothers and sisters use emergency lights for studies. Ratan said that I don’t even have money to buy my daughter’s cricket equipment. Now Bhamashah is helping, so hopefully the daughter will be able to move ahead.
Many senior people are talking to Sushila on phone or coming to meet her, but till now no one has shown any enthusiasm to help.
Despite all the claims of the governments, there is hardly any light in remote areas of Rajasthan. Sushila and her siblings also remain troubled due to light cuts.
The school doesn’t even have money to buy a leather ball.
The primary school in the village where Sushila studies has neither a ground nor playing facilities. Sushila has also been given the equipment to play cricket by her teacher Ishwarlal. The place where Sushila is seen bowling in the viral video is the school compound.
Earlier, Sushila used to practice by making a wicket out of coal on the wall here. After the kit arrived, she started bowling in front of the wicket. There were 9 teachers in the dilapidated school. A few months ago, four teachers were transferred simultaneously. No teacher has come since then. All the children of the school depend on five teachers.
God makes the children practice after school. Since leather balls are expensive, she practices with tennis balls. Not only in the school, there is no ground for children to play in the entire village and Dhariyavad.
Government officials, politicians and Pratapgarh MLA Revenue Minister Hemant Meena from Pratapgarh and Dhariyavad also came to meet Sushila. When Bhaskar asked the question of increasing the facilities in the village, no one had an answer. The minister went away citing the viral video as the only way to get help.
Sushila is used to playing barefoot. She cannot play ball wearing shoes.
Started playing three years ago, learned action in 12 months
Sushila told that she became interested in cricket three-four years ago. His uncle’s daughter Renuka Meena had also gone viral some time ago while batting like this. Now she is training in Jaipur. Got a lot of inspiration from that too.
For the last three years, she has been learning the nuances of cricket in school with her teacher Ishwarlal Meena. Started doing this kind of high arm action a year ago. I improved my action by practicing day and night for about a year. Sushila says that-
I didn’t know that my bowling action was like that of a big bowler (Zaheer Khan). I don’t even know Sachin Tendulkar, but I want to become a cricketer when I grow up.
Sushila started playing cricket after watching boys in the village and school. Today no boy from the village can stand in front of his fast bowling. Due to the small ground of the school, his runup is barely 10 steps, but despite this, the speed of his ball is amazing.

Learned tricks from YouTube tutorial, working on variations
Ishwarlal, the coach of Sushila, a class five student, says that in 2017, Sushila was posted in the primary school of her village. During this time, Sushila had again taken admission in third class after dropping out. Have been teaching him sports for three years.
Meena told that earlier her action was not like this. Seeing his high end action in bowling, he started improving it. She grips the ball, out swing, in swing and yorker very well. Sushila has been trained by God after watching bowling tutorial on YouTube.
Sushila’s first video went viral 7 days ago, with 28 million views. The second video was viewed by 38.6 million people. The video which created the most buzz has received 44.6 million views and is still viral. Ishwarlal says that if the school gets facilities from the government, players like Sushila can emerge in every house.

Sushila’s mother Shanti Bai herself has studied till 5th standard. He also got married at the age of 20. Today there are three children. Hearing the praise Sushila received, she said – No matter what happens, I will educate my daughter and take her forward in sports. I will make every effort so that my daughter’s dream of becoming a cricketer can be fulfilled.
Whereas Sushila’s grandmother Sukhmi said – At our age we were allowed to go out of the house, there was a lot of it. It is a big thing that my two granddaughters are playing cricket today. My only wish is that you play well and make your name famous.
After the video surfaced, Revenue Minister Hemant Meena also came to meet Sushila.
How can daughters go to play 60 km away?
Revenue Minister Hemant Meena reached Sushila’s house on Sunday and met her. Bhaskar reporter asked him about developing sports facilities and grounds in the village. Meena said- It is true that there is a problem of ground and amenities in Dhariyavad. Come to the district headquarters in Pratapgarh. There is complete arrangement for sports hostel for girls here.
The minister forgot that the distance from Sushila’s village Ramera Talab to Pratapgarh is about 60 km. However later he said – If there is a need for the village in future, then we will do the work of providing land for the ground.
